I kind of feel sorry for Edwards. I'm not sure how much of an appetite the general public gets for how wierd the story becomes after Messiah.Sounds like they're eyeing Gareth Edwards to take over the Dune franchise after Villeneuve finishes up with Dune Messiah.
Edwards has directed:
Monsters (2010)
Godzilla (2014)
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
The Creator (2023)
And he's the director on the next reboot of Jurassic Park which comes out this summer.
I think Jurassic Park as a franchise is well beyond saving; so far they've had one great movie and five utterly horrible ones.
I thought he did a decent job on his other movies but his work lacks the depth that Villeneuve has displayed with stuff like Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, Dune, and Prisoners. Hopefully he can rise to the challenge if he indeed gets the assignment for Children of Dune.
He can't possible make a worse Dune movie than David Lynch did, so at least we have that going for us.
