Projected for 107 points, 96% to make playoffs and 15% to win the cup.

Thats 5% higher than the second place.
and our GDT threads in the preseason are shitting all over our players

I'm almost concerned if Dom, or Dumb, from the Athletic figures we're winning the cup. ;)

Your insults for people who you disagree with are weak and downright pathetic.

I’m not the biggest fan of Dom, but at least he puts his work in unlike some other guy who spends most of his time bitching about things he doesn’t understand.

Posted with irony I'm sure. Dom isn't a member of the board, and is a public figure. You have no trouble insulting myself and others anytime of the week. Is that hypocritical?

This is the same Dom who refused to put Draisaitl even on his ballot when the rest of the voters voted him MVP. For that alone credibility is missing in action.

Goaltending is the key. Whether it's Campbell or Skinner in the playoffs, our goaltending needs to be solid. We have the offense to compete with anyone (Brown will be a huge addition to this roster) but we need solid goaltending. I think Campbell will take over the starter's role at some point this year. Also, I think you will see a top 4 defenseman added this year to the roster closer to the deadline. I think we are one good defenseman away from being the top dog. It's fun to think like this than all those years where we were dogs*it.
I agree. I still say, if we had even average goaltending last years playoffs, we beat Vegas and probably win the Cup. It would be nice to get that other top 4 dman, but unfortunately, I think Kenny has boxed himself in with cap issues so severe, he'll have to play finger in the dyke and move a valuable piece to get that dman, and expose a hole elsewhere. Here's to hoping that Broberg takes a big step, or someone like Gleason proves he's become a real deal, and becomes a solid dman for us.

Also, if Gary thinks it really is time to throw us (Canadian team with the biggest star on stage) a bone for one year, he needs to get a memo out to the refs and Parros and instruct them not to f*** us over just this one year.

So you think the league is conspiring against the Oilers?

The moon landing did happen and Elvis is dead.

This. It amazes me that this is so overlooked. I think it’s naive to have a lot of confidence in Stu or Soup
All the more reason to wait till the deadline. To make a core change it will cost assets. If we are fixing the goaltending then chances are we aren't getting another Ekholm trade for the right side. But if the goalies look great this year then we can make that D trade.

Or maybe we get a key injury and want to add a scoring forward instead. Now is the perfect time to let the team as is play itself out and maybe give some extra leash to young guys like Broberg, Holloway and Lavoie

I do agree that goaltending is the first thing we need to make sure is right. Personally I like the odds that at least one of the two will have a great year

Not even McD believes in this kind of favorites talk and it being October its aggravating if anything for the playres who fully realize in a 32 team league that all kinds of variables exist, injuries, performance, unknowns, etc.

if anything players don't like seeing this sort of prediction. The fans seem to get more interested in it than the players who see it only as premature expectation.

Every season surprises occur. A team comes out of nowhere and starts being competitive. Who would have called the Kings win in 2012 or the Blues win later on? Those just being two examples. One doesn't even know in May now who the probable winners or finalists are.

What cap and socialist draft really induces is parity. In a sport where goaltending is so predominate hockey results, wins, losses, championships revolve so much around that one position.

Even in the last game played Grubauer was sensational as he was last season in a 3-1 loss. Which otherwise looked like an 8-1 loss.

It's almost like these kinds of threads and articles are for the fans, and not the players.

They've been entirely meaningless since "The Hockey News" was trying to sell rags with this beginning season predictions and highlights 50yrs ago. Some things never change.

The Leafs would've won the cup 20 more times if any of this had any merit.

Further proof that the idiots at Evolving Wild and their Twitterlytics are an absolute joke.

They have the Flames in first place over the Oilers who they give only a 94% chance of making the playoffs.

I find all these cup predictions and the “Cup or Bust” approach to the season worrisome considering the Oilers’ tendency to struggle with high expectations. I think noted Oilers haters Dom and Wyshynski are picking them as favourites so that they can spin it as a disaster and a failure if we don’t win the cup this year, and go back to talking about 97 & 29 leaving.

Hoping the core can tune it all out, I think they can.

I’ll take those meaningless rags opinions over a boomer who calls the draft socialist.

The mentality should be Cup or bust. But they definitely struggle with expectations.

I’ve been an Oiler fan since Ron Low was a goaltender!, but predicting them a Stanley Cup winner is foolhardy. Injuries will happen; with twenty teams pressed up against the cap signifigant trades will be few and $775000 players tend not to be difference makers. I think we finally have all the pieces but it’s a long journey to June. I also am very concerned about the effects of playing a season with less than 23 man roster

The most important position in playoffs is invariably goaltending. It is almost every season. In postseason the success of various clubs, or failure, could be said to be goaltending.

Unless Campbell ignites this season and playoffs the Oilers lack the kind of starter that can win a series by making big stops.
