The Athletic - NHL awards watch: Leon Draisaitl leads a fascinating MVP field

Karlsson with the Sharks v2. Sacrificing defense for points because the rest of the team sucks. Its proven he gets sheltered o zone starts with primarily Petey or Miller to protect him. They scared to put him in his own zone with line 3 or 4 and boom, the Canucks suck and lose because of lack of depth.

Show me the sheltered o zone starts now.
Ok lets do an exercise

300 minutes min TOI 5v5
(helps eliminate a ton and we'll stick with 5v5 instead of even strength with off-setting penalties and those starts and games with OT)

here is the top 21
(limited by screen size)

Its clear who who was sheltered on Vancouver's defense
You can't even make an argument for anybody for anybody in the 50% range
The most sheltered d-man in the league is Raddysh by a substantial margin
I'm not saying Hughes is Kovacevic, Siegenthaler or Chris Tanev. But you would be the dumbest coach in history to give him those assignments

Note: We can up it to 500 mins ........... But yeah he still doesnt appear in the top 30

Classic internet scenario unfolding

- someone says something that shows they are clueless on a subject
- I let them know they are clueless
- they respond with the double-down

Remove PP time now and remove playing with Pettersson or Miller. Its basically non existent that he plays with the lower lines in his own zone. And he obviously isnt even considered for PK time. High end D men arent sheltered like that.

And Im not even saying that isnt the best way to use him. It all changed to that starting last season and he won a Norris, while Fox and Makar started PKing more, their time with lower lines increased, and D zone starts increased.

Remove PP time?????????

Can you read? I said 5v5 as that is a more even measure of zone starts
Do you even understand how PP’s even work? Why the hell would include that?

You’ve had narratives that have backfired on you already and you double down

It’s embarrassing

Honestly it was too long/annoying to read with no punctuation and random sentence seperation so skipped to the chart. Also, the chart didnt have the header which was even more annoying there. Copy and paste to a spreadsheet version. You can do as many lines as you want then.

In other words, you have no way to justify your once again, poorly constructed argument…

One of the biggest Ls I've seen this year.

It's OK to be wrong my guy, your life will be easier and people will like you more if you learn to admit it every now and then.

I think Kooch has an unlikability factor greater than his adversaries. Not saying it should matter but it probably does.
That and he also doesn't have any interesting narrative/personality.

McDavid's the chosen one, Mackinnon's the intense guy (whose friends w Crosby) that wants to win, Draisaitl's the underrated #2 who sometimes outshines McDavid.

Kucherov's just a great player with a deceptive game. The numbers speak for him but that's his only mouthpiece
