The All Purpose Video Game Thread Part Iv

Experienced my first major bug in Expedition 33. Got stuck in the outer world and camping/switching characters didn’t work. Had to load a previous save to get out. Other than that, the game and battle system have been great.

I’m so tempted , especially at the price. 50 bucks on launch, meanwhile it’s 90 to get KCD2 on PS5
The gold edition is 90. The regular edition is 70. Amazon and wally world has it 10 bucks cheaper on sale so you can get KC2 for 60 there. Let’s not talk rubbish.

I'm in year 3 of revisiting EA NHL 21 (keeping Buch lol). In December 2022, I decided to watch a CPU v CPU game of Hartford vs Bridgeport.

We lost 2-1 even though we outshot them 28-14. The winning goalie for the Sound Tigers was none other than Henrik Lundqvist. Well played, CPU. Well played.

Well it seems only the Gold edition is available on PSN.

Anyway I folded and went to GameStop and bought MH wilds for full MSRP.

Definitely my safest bet, likely to get 1000 hours out of it, meanwhile there’s risk I won’t like KCD2 or Clair Obscur

Been playing the Oblivion remake and it’s amazing.

I love how beautiful it looks and how it feels but they kept all the janky ass NPCs that gave it so much charm. All the strange and stilted dialog and hearing a characters voice actor change in the middle of sentence continues to be 10/10.

NPC 1: Have you heard of the high elves?

NPC 2 *agonized*: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

NPC 1: Have a good day!

NPC 2: You too!

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has the highest user rating ever on Metacritc at a 97.

If you don't have this game yet, WTF are you doing!?

Playing Monster Hunter, yo. Also waiting for a sale.

Loving Monster Hunter Wilds btw.

I only joined the bandwagon for Worlds, but Rise was so shitty im happy that this game is a true successor

This game... Just WAUW!!!! Just finished act 1. First time ever I´ve cried to a videogame cutscene lol. It started out quite slowly, but now, best game I´ve ever played. The voiceacting, the music, the bossfights. Everything is just amazing :)

I'm loving Expedition 33 and finally beginning to "get" the lumina and pictos system. It's a little overwhelming how each character has a totally different mechanic. Like--spoiler--Sciel, I just do not understand her at all. The "tutorial" it gave on how to use her made absolutely no sense to me, lol. And some of the other things like weapon scaling and all that I haven't figured out yet. It's fairly complicated for people like me who were expecting something more straightforward.

Also, the menu design is terrible. Navigating around is so obtuse and half of the time I can't even see what I have highlighted. Especially true with pictos and lumina.

I do want to add that I think it's cool that theoretically I could beat any boss if I have the skill, no matter how under-levelled I am. That's really neat.

All of those are relatively minor quibbles because everything else is so good. Not sure I'd be giving the game a 10 like so many others but it's for sure an 8.5 or 9 for me.

NOTE: I only finished Act 1 last night.

I’ll get Expedition 33 eventually. Don’t want to drop the money on a new game right now. I did reactivate my FFXIV sub this week though, rolling a new character for fun since it’s been a while.

Sciel’s pretty effective against most bosses. I’d kind of say she’s between a red mage and a gambler/healer if you want to compare her to final fantasy classes.

I really like that after a certain number of battles you can equip those pictos to other characters via lumina. You can stack Maelle pretty easily, which has been very helpful for me. Also enjoy being able to re-do builds if I don’t like how they perform.

That, and one of the very early scenes in the game with the Gommage festival made me tear up. IYKYK

The quickness in which games went from $60 USD to $70 USD to $80 USD to potentially more is insane and absurd. I hate it. No reason for it.
Honestly I'm surprised it has taken this long. I remember SNES games 30 years ago were like $50 or $60, and some were $70. That's gotta be like $100 or more now, right? And there weren't deluxe editions then (generally), you were just getting a box, cartridge, instruction manual, and maybe a map or poster or something. It always felt like games were inflation-proof.

Now you have AAA releases taking many years and multiple hundred of millions of dollars to produce? It actually seems logical to me that the costs would be increasing. The base price of a game has been generally static for decades so this seems like a reasonable correction.

EDIT: The $55 I gave to my friend's brother to buy me Mortal Kombat II for the SNES in 1994 is apparently worth about $118 today.
