The All Purpose Video Game Thread Part Iv

Lol I love turn based , FFX is my favorite game of all time and I’m doing a play through right now, but it’s a pretty lame and cowardly choice for a brand new IP in the current year imho

I feel like the rest of your game really has to hold up in order for TB combat to work. Persona 5 is the last TB game that I played and liked but that was less about the combat (which was solid) and more about the rest of that game being f***ing nuts.

Side note:

I don't think there is a single side quest in any game ever that angered me more than the Chocobo Catcher balloon bull shit in FFX. I get pissed off just thinking about it.

lol I’m doing endgame for the first time and I’ve already given up on ever getting the SunSigil. I’ve done everything else including maxing out all my stats and killing all the super bosses. But f*** that Chocobo Race forever, I’d love to have 5 minutes alone with the motherless f*** who designed that

Don't get me started with that, lol.

I loved the story and game play for FFX, was also the first time they had voice actors, so was pretty cool.

The lightning dodging game was hard but fair in the sense that if I f***ed up, it was on me.

The chocobo balloon shit was just stupid. I'm sorry I cannot predict that you're going to spawn a f***ing bird to dive bomb into me from off screen and then cause me to get hit by another 3 right after.

I have completed it exactly 1 time and I will never even attempt it again. My attempts more or less went like this (including the rage)

It's a game that I liked the first time that I played through it and LOVED it when I played through it again. Sits firmly at #3 for me in my fav FF games and totally understand why someone else would have it at #1. The post game content (Chocobo Catcher f***ery aside, f*** that mini game) is excellent and is really an entire game in itself.

The voice acting is mostly terrible but it really only adds to the charm and has really in some cases has become iconic.

I really actually think that FFXIV Heavensward through Endwalker was the absolute pinnacle of FF story telling, hands down. Not enough people agree because it’s labeled an MMO but you can play the entire game minus any competitive raiding completely solo. It’s a masterpiece.

Almost everyone I know who has played through most or the entire series swears that either Endwalker or Shadowbringers is the best installment in the entire FF series.

I don't know when I'll have the time to dump into a game again but this is probably the direction that I'll go in because I know I've been missing out.

Why have I never seen this thread! What are people playing?

I'm starting DMC because of the series. It was recommended to start with DMC 3.

Does anyone have experiences with those many 3000 games in one devices? is it hot trash?
Most of them are trash. A lot of the games newer than NES don’t work or glitch out. You’re better off just doing it yourself via raspberry pi / retro pi combo or just putting the emulators on your computer and hooking up to a tv. I do both and use my ps5 controller with them.

I don't think I read a single word of any quest or watch a single second of any cutscene when I played 14. Maybe one day I'll just watch some YouTube recap of the whole thing because all I ever heard about 14 is how good the writing/story is.

Gotta get to Heavensward before that really becomes true but then, yes, it’s top tier.

Both were exceptional. FFXIV is a terrific game. You can get a lot done on your own, unlike FFXI which was a real grind. I liked FFXI more but you couldn't really do much on your own. Soundtrack on both games were amazing. I find myself listening to some tracks every now and then and nostalgia hits me hard. Especially with 11.

Those are cheap Chinese junk. I use my PSP as my primary emulation console, you can play NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, SMS, GG, Genesis, MD, Arcade Games, TurboGrafx-16, Atari, all PS1 games, a few N64 games & of course PSP.

I also have a PS Vita which is a great emulation console as well but it doesn't expand emulation to any newer gen consoles than PSP but people have made some ports for the Vita including: GTA San Andreas, GTA III, GTA Vice City, Bully, Simpsons Hit & Run, Cuphead.

You can find PSP's cheaper than Vitas though and I think the PSP is the superior console, it's form factor, UI, etc is the greatest ever imo. Game library is also incredible. Vitas game library was shit

FFXI was the GOAT. Under appreciated. Valkurm Dunes where you learn to function in a party for the first real time. Roaming NMs with actual valuable drops. The first run to Jeuno at level 20 before you get a chocobo. That whole quest line to get your airship pass. I loves San d’Oria but I also loved the Quadav stronghold near Bastok. Windy was never my city. The whole tragedy of the expedition in Xarc and the Shadowlord. End game fights with Kirin and weekend Dynamis alliances. I fell off after the Crystaline Prophecy expansion or whatever was after that. With XIV I haven’t jumped back in to Dawntrail yet.
