The all purpose Russia thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Canada US relations are at the lowest point in 200 years. The country is firmly anti Russia.

There will be immense pressure to boycott any hockey event with Russia.

It's about hockey vs Russia, though. Given they agreed to play vs communists, I doubt they will boycott Russia. And as far as I remember Sweden said they wouldn't boycott anything. So if it's just Czech and Finland, I think the answer is obvious.

Another thing is the Olympics will happen in Italy, which isn't that much anti-Russian and I'm pretty sure wouldn't mind to see some Russian tourists.

I would like to add the news

1. A month ago the Swedish hockey federation (some guy) said that Swedes will not be happy with Russia at Games, but will not boycott.
2. After the IOC election, the IIHF would like to make a final decision on Olympics tournament (list of teams) in April. They will ask the IOC and follow its decision.

Agreed, in 1972 shortly after the Czech invasion and during Vietnam War, Canada somehow had no issue playing the Summit. What happened now ? I think Canada will act extremely unhappy, perhaps not shake Russian players hands, but will not boycott

I don’t think the players care about the politics of it either.

Does anyone think Point wouldn’t shake Kucherov’s hand?

Sweden will 100% not play in the same tournament as Russia unless there's peace between Russia and Ukraine.

It doesn't matter what any people in the hockey federation says.

An all purpose thread... Hmm.. Zero talk of goalies, zero talks of forwards. Zero talks of d. Zero talks of drafted prospects. Zero talks of the draft coming up.

Just politics and more politics.

Perhaps some help?

Do you thinka Russian goalie will get a Vezina nod? Are the Russian goalies still the best in the NHL? US has some beauts?

Do you think Michkov will get a Calder vote.. wolf and celebrini and Hutson before him?

Russians in this year's draft? Any first rounders?

Who are the best Russian d today?

You tried but reading comprehension is at an all time low apparently. It’s a shame but

Michkov has no chance for the Calder he’s 3rd best IMO.
I still rank Vasilevskiy as the best goalkeeper in the world.
A lot of brilliant youngsters coming up in the Russian system tho I’m not qualified to rank them.

Calder doesn't matter, the more interesting question will he make the team if Russia plays at the Olympics. I'm afraid if Rotenberg is a head coach then no Michkov for sure.
Rotenberg won’t be head coach, Russia will make the shocking move and appoint Guy Boucher/Igor Nikitin co-coaches!

Would be a shame. I think he's already good enough to play a role on the team and it would be a great learning experience.

If only Igor played behind the Winnipeg Jets defense. ;)

Vasy likely gets a nod, and maybe Igor sneaks in as third.

I think the narrative is too strong with the other three. He’ll probably get 4th.

So who do you think are too 3 right now? And who is the best Russian goalie today?
