The all purpose Russia thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

I had a request to start an all purpose Russia thread from @ViD

I think it's a great idea. Great hockey nation with a great history. Some amazing prospects coming up. Some great NHLers. Ovi chasing a record. Those goalies. Lots to talk about on a hockey board.

Just a reminder that politics derail things fast.

Ps. Vid... If you'd rather start it yourself...happy to delete mine. Who wants a Russian thread started by a Czechboy!

Thank you @Czechboy for creating this thread. I hope it could be kept civilized without bringing politics into it.

There’s a decent chance Russia might be given a green light to participate in the 2026 Olympics whatever the restrictions might be

Ovechkin: I was excited about the initiative by president Trump and president Putin. That’s a decision of two wise leaders that began restoring the relations between the two countries.

No; it’s better this way , some posters seeing it was created by me will enter this thread to post off topic

"Keep politics out of sport".

I certainly do, it is much more fun that way! :highclap: (no disrespect to ViD, of course)

However if on topic, as I always mentioned that if some progress is made I hope it will be with the U20 and U18 teams first, as the main WC and Olympics (without NHLers) are very meh tournaments to me anyway.

And also as I mentioned before on some occasions, Belarus shouldn't be forgotten in that way too, those who follow the junior team scrimmages know that their U20 team has become a difficult opponent for the Russian team (and it wasn't like that before).

The Belarus U18 were beating Czechs and playing great. I think they have the ndtp model and it looked like it was working. I feel like they may be the biggest riser in the next decade.

Can’t seem to translate the webpage but is that the hockey game itself or just general relations?

I can’t see the game being sanctioned by IIHF at this rate,

As for the relations… well.

I don't think the NHL will want any involvement in that game.

I don't see why team USA would be interested in it either. They just finished 2nd in the 4 Nations Cup and will be focused on the Olympics next year. They've established themselves as the clear #2 country in hockey right now. They want to challenge Canada in Italy, they don't have much to gain by playing Russia in an exhibition match.

There’s a fair chance Russia will also play in Italy

Civilized and Russia in the same sentence. Funny. You must be enjoying life in crazy cuckooland if you seriously think there's even a remote chance of Russian participation in the next olympics. IIHF has already announced a ban on both Russia and Belarus for the 2025-2026 season, and even if Russia somehow managed to bribe every IOC official to vote against the sports federation in a sport as politicized as hockey you'd instantly see every European hockey federation bar Hungary announce an immediate boycott, humiliating the IOC, an organization already desperate for legitimacy in an unprecedented way.

2 wise leaders my behind. They are both extremely narcissistic dictators obsessed with power and neither is to be trusted. Making this thread and not expecting it to be about politics is naive given the state of the geopolitical situation at the moment - Sorry Czechboy. Russia has amazing hockey players and normally I love to watch them play, but I sincerely hope every other European country will stay home if Russia is allowed to participate in any international championship till there's peace.

Started by a Czech boy? I'd rather have thread started by a Czech girl! ... Joking , of course

On a serious note -- I can see some of the posters are trying to turn it political. Which is ridiculous and is a display of their small mindedness.

All I can say is Russia is a great hockey nation. Both of our best hockey players represented Russia in international tournaments (Kasparaitis and Zubrus).

Kasparaitis wouldn't have become an Olympic champion and a world class defenseman if not for Dynamo Moscow and the Russian hockey system.

Finns, Swedes are welcome to boycott Russia. I'd be fine with that - the Canada, USA and Russia competition is the highest level anyway.

Russia should be banned from international competitions until 2030 at least, and longer if Putin is still in power.
