The All-Purpose Megna Thread

Interesting player, high end NHL speed and a bit of offensive talent. It would really help this franchise if he turns out to be a productive top 9 forward.

I'm starting to think a significant LW upgrade for Crosby might be the best move for this team in the next 18-24 months. That solves 2 lines with one move as Kunitz completes the 2nd line better than any mid-tier (and likely overpaid) or reclamation UFA could. And then you can look at this scenario if/when Bennett proves worthy and bumps Dupuis down:

LW - Crosby - Bennett - assuming the LW is a more offensively competent than Kunitz, this could really maximize Crosby's offense
Kunitz - Malkin - Neal - proven
Dupuis - Sutter - Megna? - extremely fast L3 that can chip in

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis (Just dont see DB messing with this line)
Jokinen-Malkin-Neal (Safe to say Jussi has earned his spot)
Bennett-Sutter-Megna (Gives the third line speed and talent)
Glass-Vitale-Adams (Been great most of the season so far)

Smegna like smegma? That's sick.

Yah it's sick all right... and these are hockey players we're talking about. Filthy / crude minds abound in the locker rooms of hockey country. The more crude the nickname, the more players are likely to adopt it. Especially for a rookie. They may not call him Smegna forever, but for his rookie indoctrination? Gotta be.

If this bunch of sister sledges is too soff to call a rookie named Megna, "Smegna", we should blow it up. They're not real hockey players. ;)

That third line would get wrecked. Not enough physicality, plus limited nhl experience.

Pretty much this is the best we can hope for.

Why because I don't want 2 rookies playing together?

I want Megna and Bennett both on this team, but not on the same line.

I'm not sure why this angers people.

Have you ever read all of your posts? Do you notice a trend?

I don't want them together either, but not because they are rookies. One of them at least should be swapped with Dupuis.

Post your ideal lineup.

Bennett needs to play with Malkin and Neal when everyone is healthy. He's not going to get any better playing on the third line. Bylsma needs to get over Jokinen's preseason hat trick.

Hopefully we'll see this:

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis (this isn't changing)
Bennett-Malkin-Neal
Jokinen-Sutter-Megna
Glass-Vitale-Adams

Where Beau Bennett plays in this lineup doesn't really matter. He's going to have an impact where ever he is put. I think trying to make a productive 3rd line is one of the most important things this team has to do going into the playoffs. If some scoring pressure can be taken off the top 2 lines, it will make a world of difference.

Megna and Bennett would mesh well with Sutter.
Agreed.

Agreed again. It seemed like we didn't get anything from our 3rd line in last years playoffs. It was a far cry from the years where we rocked arguably the best 3rd line in hockey.

if Megna and Bennett both end up with Sutter, and ALL OF OUR SKILLED RHS are on the same line, I will pull my hair out.

Although, why not for the lulz:

Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis
Jokinen - Malkin - Neal
Bennett - Sutter - Megna
Adams - Vitale - Dags

Who really cares where anyone plays as long as it works?

KCD works. I think Jokinen with Geno and Neal will work. I also believe that Sutter, Megna, and Bennett would mesh really well and be highly productive.

lots of things work, that does't mean we should stop trying to make them better.

I think playmakers, like Sid and Geno, would benefit from having RHS on their lines. I'd settle for RHS on the power play, though.

Also, I understand KCD "works" and M-S-B would probably "work", but I think putting Dupuis on the 3rd line and one of M/B on the 1st line would work better. Not saying they are better players than Dupuis, just better in that scenario.

But it's not going to happen, whether you or I think it should. Of the things wrong with the team, KCD isn't even on my list.

The way I see it, you can assume that most plays will start with Sid and Geno. If you then have one RHS and one LHS on the line, there is a one timer "possible" from every location in the offensive zone. That opens up space, even if they never manage to thread the seams. It makes it more risky to just defend Crosby/Malkin and force his teammates to make plays because there are wider seams to cover.

Doesn't help though if one of them is forced to play his off-wing after 16 years of not doing that.
