Zegras would need to come for 'real' cheap for me to take him, but if he did, there's only one year left at 5,75M before he becomes a RFA, still.

If he doesn't pan out, he could be flipped for more as a rental the trade deadline?

Zegras for one of Beck, or Kapanen, plus the Pittsburgh 2nd rounder (41st OA)?

At this point in the rebuild there is no point in trading for reclamation projects, especially ones who don't fill our major needs at C or RD.

Assets should be saved and used only for proven talents to help insulate our young core guys.

You like Zegras, good for you. I don't. He doesn't scream playoff warrior to me, more like frilly ballerina.
If he ever would come to the Habs and prove me wrong, great! But I just don't see him being an important piece to a Cup contender.
Pavel Bure was actually a nasty peice of business. Its a part of his game that has been forgotten.

Regardless, that list is full of hall of famers for the most part. Apples and oranges comparison in terms of impact.

Do Caufield and Nylander scream playoff warrior to you guys? Because they've done pretty well in the playoffs.

There is never a point in time for any team that "there is no point in trading for reclamation project".

Its all a question of cost and priorities.

Was Patrick Kane a playoff warrior? Gretzky? Mats Naslund? Pavel Bure? Yzerman? Hakan Loob? Marchessault? Scott Niedermayer? A lot of skilled players have been important pieces to winning teams without bringing much physicality.
Playoff warrior to me is not necessarily playing physical. It's not shying away when the other team gets physical with you. None of the players you named played scared in the playoffs so yes, they were all playoff warriors.

We have our most talented offensive prospect in decades with no other legit 2nd liners to play with him right now, on D our best 2 D are 21 and 23 years old and were tasked with playing their offsides and babysitting Matheson last year.

The team has plenty of bodies and prospects/picks, I just feel at this point in the rebuild after getting a taste of the playoffs it makes sense to pay the price for legit talent to fill the remaining holes and help our young guys grow rather than trade for more question marks.

As long as the "legit talent" fits Montreal's needs, sure. That doesn't mean you shouldn't take gambles too. You want competition and to uncover hidden gems as well, you literally can't build a contender without doing that.

Well, you can work hard and show up and still loose the puck because you are not as strong as the guy you are battling.

Playoff warriors to me are guys that play physical and actually win puck battles. It's important. I get your point but lets not overlook the point that if you want a deep run in the NHL playoffs, you need a team that is physically strong with skill mixed in and sound defense.

Oilers and Panthers have skill and skating. However, what they also have is overall physically strong roster. Habs are going to learn this more and more as our youth heads into their prime.

Hakan loob isn't in the Hall of Fame. He's 5'9 and he had a huge playoff to help the Flames win the cup on the old Forum ice.

I think you skipped a step or two in the convo. This was originally about Zegras.

Yep, I'm aware of loob. I mentioned in my post that almost all of them are hall of famers.

The Habs need a different profile of player. That being said, if my choice was loob or zebras, its not even a question. Loob easily.

If the goal is to be a team that can play any type of game that the opposition can throw at them, you need a diversified roster. Caufiled is fine. I also dont think they should have a bunch a caufield size players either.

I'm surprised this thread is still going. The Habs made it clear last year they did not want both Demidov and Zegras as they both fill the same role. Zegras was the fallback options if Demidov was gone.
That's given a succeeding Dach, now that he's falling back and Laine is just a temporary fixture, there is room for another top 6 player.

I'm like Oh FFS. No way I'm spending my summer in this thread.
Ignore is a split second away.

Things change with new information. We need an offensive second line. We'll see if HuGo decide to limit themselves to certain player types to improve that second line...

For example of how things changed. Prior to this year, Dach was on his way to becoming an element of the topic six. Now that is a huge question mark. Newhook was also a candidate. I would only pencil Newhook into the bottom six and if he ever becomes a top six player, that's a pleasant surprise, not part of the plan.

Hugues talked about not wanting to have duplicates after the draft.
So i think it has more to do with the type of player he is rather than the number of top 6 players they have.

Zegras is a far more talented player than that waste. He puts up 90 pts with mackinnon.
They’re both wastes and Drouin isn’t known for a joke circus goal. Garbage bush league shit. Zebras seems like a complete clowns I said Drouin is better because he is and that’s not saying a lot about Zegras

Perople need to stop with that worthless crap. Any goal is a good goal .It doesn't effing matter how you score it. As long as he only attempts it when there is a good chance of scoring it is fine.
