The all encompassing photography thread

I did a search to find if there was something similar but couldn't find anything. Not exactly sure if this is the correct forum or if the Geek forum would be better. If a moderator wants to move this thread, feel free to do so.

So... I thought I would start a thread about photography (I'm an avid enthusiast) where members can post photos they've taken, ask photography related questions, or provide photography related information.

A little about myself.. I started into digital photography about 9 years ago. My first camera was a point and shoot Kodak Z612. A couple of years later I decided to get something a bit better so I bought a Nikon D3100. I used that for 2 or 3 years and decided that it just wasn't capable of doing what I wanted it to. My primary complaint was the continuous frame rate of 3 fps. I like to shoot action photography.

So I bought myself a used Nikon D300. It was great! With a battery grip it was capable of 8 fps. My next camera was a Nikon D7000. Less fps (6) than the D300 but better sensor resolution (16 mp vs 12 mp). Now I had 4 cameras ( the Kodak and the 3 Nikons). I sold the D3100.

A month ago, I bought myself another camera... a Nikon D500. I love it. 10 fps, 20.9 mp sensor resolution, and a very fast auto focus system.

As for lenses, I've had a few that I've bought and sold. Currently I own a Nikon 50mm F/1.8, a Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8, a Nikon 18-105mm F/3.5-5.6, a Tokina 14-20mm F/2.0, and my favorite lens.. a Nikon 70-200mm F/2.8.

I've taken a few evening photography classes at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT)... Basic Photography, Intermediate Photography, Advanced Photography, and Night & Low Light Photography. I plan on taking an Action Photography class this spring followed up with a Nature Photography class. Taking photography classes was the best money that I've spent on my hobby. Can't recommend them enough.

So enough about me... here are a few photos that I've taken...

Just checked out your Flickr and you have some very nice shots.

I've always had an interest in photography and in the past 3 or 4 years I've spent much more time learning about photography by reading books and watching numerous youtube videos on all types of photography topics and post processing and have learned so much. I prefer landscape and low light photography.

I hope others participate in this thread and it's quite active so everyone can maybe learn a few new things and get to also look at some nice photos.

I don't really take a lot of photos anymore. I usually setup a shot for 10-12 minutes and pull a timelapse instead. Much more fun.

Not sure why Stanislav's photos aren't visible on my computer.

Here's a few pics that I took while at the 2016 Spruce Meadows National Championship, here in Calgary Alberta.

Some really nice shots on your flickr page! Thought about creating a similar thread, glad you did..
I'm mostly into mountain & wildlife photography, though most of the shots here are taken with an old Sony cam. Simple too lazy to carry all the heavy DSLR equipment when not on a work trip..

An impression from the alps a couple of days ago. Snowy winter storm and glaring sun on my way down into civilization.

Boy, did I misread that title. Had to re-write this whole response.

Very nice photos, you could make a living off that hobby. Your sports action photos are particularly compelling.

ps. my dog likes your dogs pics as well.
