This is too true. Although I get to see the Dayglo Abortions in May and the Ripcordz in July.

I have given up on seeing bands, even though coming out of lockdown I had the bright idea to go to more live shows. The prices are so far out of reach is a big part of it, but living where I do, it's frequently hundreds of miles to get to a show for a band I want to see. At one point flying to Denver was the closests/lowest cost option for me for a particular group. They made no appearances in the SE at all. Another that was close was Ithaca NY. Like... c'mon. 1500 miles to go see Wardruna? I would do it but I can't afford it.

Now playing: Wild Pink - Dulling The Horns

Self-proclaimed Bills and Sabres fans (fools!). Really dug their first few albums, and this most recent one is right in my wheelhouse. Warm fragile vocals, big fuzzy guitars.

This was a cool surprise, Randy featuring on an NZ metal song.

Taniwha are guardian spirits here. Neither good nor bad. Every kid here grows up hearing about the Taniwha in the river, or stories about the local landscape that usually have legends of Taniwha f***ing things up in some drama.

Hearing Randy throwing in some Te Reo Māori is f***ing cool as a Kiwi metalhead.

Hopefully the prices will start coming down.

I go home for lunch, and got in my car, looked at my phone (I can't have a cellphone in the building I work in) and saw a notification that Kevyn Adams had been relieved of duties. I smiled big, and then realized a moment later what day it was. Bastards.

Now playing: The Avalanches - Wildflower

Apparently there is a genre called plunderphonics, and I just learned that today.

Here ya go -

Also, DJ Shadow, especially his early work.

From Wildflower there is a sample in this song -

...also used in this song -

... that comes from here -

I almost missed the turn into my apartment when I heard each one back to back, realizing they were the same old sample. Then I had to dig up the sample.

The musical mix continues for the younger spawn. I've put together about a dozen playlists of things that are a combo of memory and a little digging. It's wild to have a song start to play that sounds vaguely familiar and then know what the next verse is going to be or the chorus. Accessing memory requires blowing some dust off.

Good stuff, thanks for the recommendations.

Always blows my mind to come across artists for the first time that are right up my alley and were active a while back, when I thought I had a good grasp of the music world as a whole.

I have that same issue - I'll hear something and be all "wait! how did this sneak past me? where was I?" about it. Also the "wait, they did another album??" for things I skipped over or lost touch with. The internet is fun for that. I discovered someone I helped *ahem* percussion tech for a show in Buffalo in the early 90's has an album that came out just last year. Which reminds me, I need to queue that up and give it a listen.

This morning's kick in the teeth - Clem Burke, the last of the musicians from the original lineup of Blondie (their drummer) has died of cancer.

Now playing: Lil' Wayne - I'm Me

Will probably exit this life not sure whether he was making a linear algebra joke or not

yes I'm the best
and no I ain't positive
I'm definite
