OMG I pulled this video up and was enjoying the music and ... WTF!!!
I had to "rewind" it and go back to see what the heck that was... Definitely wasn't expecting that. And the bloopers at the end were funny. I'm going to have to check out more of their videos. Thanks for posting.

Shoulda got one game in
f*** it, it’s a music thread. I’m gonna post some artists from my city that make music (or made music). Many of these people are my friends. There’s no genre here, as here a bar show isn’t that odd to be multi-genre. Some have moved away to pursue their dream, some have came back, some no longer exist. The only qualification I have is that the songs are on Spotify, so in theory you can add them to your playlist if so desired (this only applies to Canada and the US, so anybody else might be boned).
First is doom metal band Woods of Ypres. Originally from Toronto, by the fourth album the singer/guitarist moved here, and his band was a local metal band. I went to high school with the drummer, keyboardist, and one of the guitarist, and worked with the bassist. This and an EP were the only releases they were all on, and by the last release they were all studio musicians. That album never officially got completed, as the singer died in an accident in 2011. The song is from the fourth album, and if you don’t want to cry, DO NOT open up the video in YouTube and read the comments, as his mom Esther is all over them (who is an absolutely lovely lady).
The second song is country music artist Tyson Hanes. While I’m not a fan of the genre, I’ve known him for years going back to before he even started making music. We played high school hockey against each other (aka we sucked), and knew each other from punk shows. His first band was more of an outlaw country style, and we used to do a shitload of dumbass shit together, as that band featured my cousin.
Thirdly is the band Fairmounts. While the band is from Toronto, the singer and guitarist of this song is from here. They’re a pop-punk band, and he’s had numerous bands here that fell into the “punk” genre. Unfortunately for him, he did get popular as a whole during the pandemic due to doing Zoom video covers with many heavyweights in the alternative music scene (like with members of Ramones, MxPx, Offspring, sum41, blink 182, Rancid, Chanel West Coast, Tony Hawk, plus smaller artists). But as an aside, the following video is a deep cut, as it’s a re-recording of a local band that was active here for a few years, but nothing is available online in any form. Basically the inspiration was Sublime and Madness.
This is a country punk band from here. Which sounds like an odd description, but if you listen to it, you get why I didn’t go with alternative country. I’ve known the guitarist since 9th grade, and have known his wife since we were in single digit ages. This isn’t the only band he’s a member of, but that band is a straight up generic garage rock band. And if any of you remember from the various OT real life threads, the girl in the video is also a friend who had asked me if I’d record a video with her for her OF.
Really don’t need to explain this band to most people. The singer and guitarist is my cousin, but unfortunately given the accusations leveled against him, it’s hard to differentiate between art, artist, and family. I have no idea what’s gonna happen in the future, but seeing I know the accuser, I don’t think he’s lying.
Slight bonus: but the hook of these songs were written here while backstage at a concert. And yes, there’s 5 years between releases of the songs, but the hook of Tom Sawyer was always a throwaway hook.

The new Richard Dawson album is great like everything he's done before. If you like more modern folk music I'd heavily suggest to give him a try.
