Hoooooold up a second. You guys are talking Canadian bands and not one person mentions Billy Talent??

I downloaded a hockey video game for the first time in years a few days ago, NHL25, and when I decided to fire it up and give it a go my brain started playing Red Flag by Billy Talent.

Love that band.

Edit: I saw @yahhockey mentioned them. I am mollified somewhat.

Teenage Head. Now there's a band I hadn't thought of in a while.

Saw them in Vancouver in 1980. Seemed like everyone in the crowd was from Southern Ontario.

US label made them tame down their name when it looked they might be breaking out. Never heard about them again after that.

I haven't been close to Canada in too long so if it's in the last 10 years it would have had to catch my ear in a different way.

Canadian stuff I listen to now and again: Frank Marino was a guitar spanking monster when I was a kid. Colin James could hit some cool licks. Joey Landreth is pretty good at that guitar thing too.

edit: forgot about Pat Travers. Him and Thrall were lights out.

I’ll be seeing them at the end of September. And the Ripcordz at the end of next month.

The Ripcordz show should be fun, as it’s in a converted three chair barber shop, right next to a brand new condo building. Directly across from both is a high end pizza shop and a couple of dive bars and a nightclub.

Porter's new album Smile just came out this week and I've been enjoying the hell out of it. Porter Robinson means so much to me and his last album, Nurture, got me through most of craziness that was 2021 as well as the depression than lingered after.

If I were to say that there is some great pop on Smile, I hope that it wouldn't be interpreted as a slight. There is some great pop on Smile.

Actually Arcade Fire is mostly American. They met at McGill, but only one member is Canadian.

Also Feist is slightly cheating, as she was a member of Broken Social Scene before she got popular as a solo artist. And in fact boosted their popularity because of “1,2,3,4”.

As an aside, playing metal really freaks out the Indians that are here because of Trudeau. I literally just went inside to grab another beer and come back outside, and the three people that were outside stopped walking and turned around and walked away. Like yea it sounds aggressive but I’m not gonna shank you dude
