Speculation: The 2026-27 Roster Speculation Thread: Summer Edition - Throw in All The Oars, We're Trading for Battleships

Have you watched the playoffs since the Sabres got eliminated? The Sabres goaltending is fine.

It will be a 3 goalie rotation, same as this past year. It worked extremely well and it becoming more of a trend in the NHL.

The Sabres would be dumb to trade UPL. Good goalies are not easy to find.
Have i watched? Sure...

I never said our situation isn't fine.

Thanks for agreeing with me when I said it'd be a 3 goalie tandem again.

Then boooom....now you're actually talking about the subject I politely put on the table before you came in hot headed. Thats what I think is worth discussing is upl expendable at his cost? I think its a good discussion in general because I feel like there are 6k believers and then doubters.

Our priorities are very different

Both those contracts become major issues. Tuch is massively overpaid in a few many years and now we have to pay Benson even more than him on his next deal.

No thanks.

Just let him walk and pay Benson what it takes for 8 years. You can be upset for a couple years…and thank God every single year after that.
Read the thread.

@BloFan4Life posted his idea and I ran it on puckpedia. Those are the AFP projections inside of his model of the off-season. He went 3x$5.6m but I used the AFP projections instead.

What I would do is very, very different.

I feel like we need to discuss what our goalie situation is next year....

We talk more about kess or Krebs than a bigger issue at hand.

We are running 3 goalies again right? Who is out?

Jarmo and Lindy both talked about keeping three again and that the three all liked one another. I wonder if some of the Levi rumble is that he doesn’t get along with someone in the room (UPL)?

I suspect it's between Levi and Ellis. Could be decided during training camp if Levi isn't traded before then.

I don’t know, Chain. Levi seemed to be pretty easy going in videos I’ve seen.
I just replay that GWG in game 7 in my head, and then UPL’s reaction in the hallway.
Regardless of the unicorn season they had with the three, he’s not the guy.

Who trades a 25 year old center that put up over 50 points while being 50% on faceoffs and leading the league in shorthanded goals?

I’m just saying he’s a candidate to get traded. Salary needs to move out, and benson in a bridge if you resign Tuch.
Why would you sign Kesselring who Lindy avoided putting in the line up like the plaque for 2.75 million a year?

The estimator for salary puts him around that amount. Kesselring was injured for much of the year. You keep the experienced RD over Krebs.
Krebs is 25 years old, put up almost 40 points and was counted on to close out games. He should be a priority signing.
He np enefited from playing in a top line role where he’s not a top line player. People bit he’d at greenways cap hit, they are going to love Krebs cap hit.

You also need room for Kulich to be promoted into.

If you extend Krebs, you have 15 forwards for 12 slots (including Danforth and Kozak)
16 if you bring back Mal

Let's say for the sake of argument that Kulich is back and ready for top line minutes as Ruff would like him back with Benson and Thompson.
Somebody has to go to make room for the kids. Greenway and Mal provide pk and defensive skills that you probably don't want to saddle on the kids right away so that's more valuable and probably more difficult to replace than what Zucker provides? His production should be replaced by Ostlund/Helenius/Kulich. If we drop Zucker, Krebs slots into third line and Greenway on 4th.

I would be ok with these lines next year. When Norris inevitably gets injured, one of Helenius/Mcleod/Ostlund can move to 2nd line center.

I would move Zucker, and have Krebs/Greenway/Carrick/Mal rotate in and out of the 4th line. Krebs could slot anywhere up or down in a pinch. And those 4 plus Mcleod could handle Pk units. Zucker has some trade value, maybe we could get another 3rd pairing defenseman...

I think I’d move Lyon and hold onto both Levi and Ellis
Lyon is the only one I’m not fine with them moving.

UPL/Ellis/Levi sounds like a nightmare room. You’re just picking between three guys who offer no consistency. Maybe you pick right one night…odds are you pick wrong the next.

Lyon settled them all down.

In fact…given all three are the same crapshoot of issues anyway…just move the one who costs so much more than the rest of them and be done with it. You’re never going to win big with UPL. And if he’s the “best upside” in the room…f*** it move them all.

There is no single player whose tenure symbolizes what an absolute shitshow of an organization this was more than Skinner. The justification for the deal was he'd be scoring 40 goals a year with Jack, so the first thing The Soccer Terrorist did was yank him off that line. Then they do the buyout instead of just riding it out and don't take advantage of the one season it helped the cap, and now the albatross is going to cost us one of our best players.
I corrected the bolded :sarcasm:

Bro is putting a complete question mark at 1C above 3 centers who have proven more and a 4th that looks infinitely better than Kulich ever did.

Minnesota hockey market is pretty incredible. And the weather is only that bad if you are accustomed to Florida or LA. Minneapolis/St Paul is pretty great too.

Summer in St Paul is awesome. My main problem with it is the Minnesota state bird is the mosquito.
No no, the weather is horrible. Summers are incredible, but that is the entirety of their good weather and it’s a few months long. Fun cities though

We have a second but he's probably walking as a UFA and a 3rd that fans want traded for cap purposes.

Brendan Warren would like a word.

How many GMS and Coaches has McDavid had in his career? Almost feel sorry for the guy

Including Keith Gretzky and Jeff Jackson as interim guys, five GM's. He's about to be on coach #6.

Does Kulich have 1st round draft pick value?(not trading him for a 1st just asking value)

Does anyone else feel like going into next year with Kulich, Ostlund and Helenius is too much youth?

Kulich seems like a good trade chip that we can get a free asset for him but how much value does he have?

Don't get me wrong I love all 3 but this team doesn't need all 3. It needs to improve the center position with someone who has more experience and preferably playoff experience.
