Teams calling Red Wings about DeBrincat — The Fourth Period

As Detroit handles Dylan Larkin trade talks, some teams are also poking around on Alex DeBrincat.

It is unclear if the Red Wings have an appetite to explore a trade involving DeBrincat, at this stage, but citing multiple league sources, TFP’s David Pagnotta reports teams have reached out.

DeBrincat owns a 16-team no-trade list as part of his contract and does have some control in where he ends up, if dealt.

The Edmonton Oilers, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Seattle Kraken and Buffalo Sabres are some of the teams exploring the market for a top-line, scoring winger and could have interest in DeBrincat.

DeBrincat scored 41 goals and added a career-high 44 assists for a career-high 85 points in 82 games with the Red Wings this past season.

I think something around Norris and Knies would work out for both, Toronto gets a solid center behind Matthews, with the emergence of Cowan and now McKenna, Knies might be more likely to get moved to give them a center.

if a center is going out in a knies deal, I think we can rest assured #4 is bringing us a center. whether we draft one or trade for one.

I do wonder if Jarmo wants it out there that he’s got a bunch of different options. Easier to say “sorry that’s the best I can do” if the other team actually thinks it’s true.

We generally have the best pieces to offer for most of the top players rumoured to move. If for example we’ve offered Ostlund for one of them and they’re holding out for Helenius, too bad. Ostlund may still be the best young centre that team would get, so better not push it kind of thing.

Here’s everything I’ve been hearing and thinking about in the final hours ahead of Friday night at KeyBank Center, plus a couple of last-minute draft ranking tweaks I’d make and some quotes and insights I’ve gathered over the course of the season.

I’ve heard talk of the Sabres flipping No. 4, and of the Rangers not shutting the door on moving back from No. 5.

........that is orders of magnitude worse than what Jarmo did to Davidson. That's a package I would expect to give up for Adam Fox.
