Speculation: The 2026-27 Roster Speculation Thread: Summer Edition - Throw in All The Oars, We're Trading for Battleships

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I doubt you get a legit top 4 D for Mrtka and a '27 1st that is likely top 10 protected.
If they keep #4 and draft a C, you could also add Ostlund to some of those trade proposals. They may need to add a middle-6 winger if they do that, but those aren't too hard to come by.

NYI would be thrilled to get that for Pelech. as would Vancouver for Hronek.

Pelech is a defensive defenseman and not a fit for the way the Sabres like to play, IMO. At least with the way they like to use their top 4 D.

And Hronek wears a letter and has a full NMC in Vancouver. He might be a fit. But, who knows if he's really an option. Plus, he has a hefty AAV at over $7M per. That could be a challenge based on what other things Jarmo gets done up front and potentially in goal.

If they take Bjorck, that likely makes them more willing to move Kulich and/or Ostlund.

Just like if they take Reid, that makes it easier to move Mrtka.

There are tons of permutations and options of how to build this thing out. But, they do have limited resources, especially cap space, and trade protections to navigate.

Both would be a stretch you are right. I would like them to look at Mintyukov. I think he would be a good fit and would be cheaper to get than those other two probably.

also, it wouldn't surprise me if Tage could get Larkin to waive his NMC for Buffalo.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun joins Gino Reda to discuss the Sabres shopping the No. 4 pick, potential landing spots for Connor Hellebuyck, contract talks between the Stars and Jason Robertson, the Rangers seeking a big trade haul for Vincent Trocheck, and the Capitals making big moves early this off-season.

“If they can get their hands on a package that includes the 4th overall pick, plus plus… I think that would be pretty enticing to Winnipeg”

Gee, you think Pierre?

I would be livid if Buffalo traded the #4 pick alone for Hellebuyck, let alone “plus, plus”. I sure as heck hope Jarmo wouldn’t even consider it.

I guess there was a lot of sticker shock after Tuesday's trades - team reevaluating whether they are in the market or not. No surprise I guess if you are trying to upgrade your team with the crop of UFAs on the market and Tuch gone already.

I'm OK with that as a seller, but no thanks as a buyer if the Rags want 4OA for Trocheck.

Kulich has limited value because of his blood clot. He has more value to us than he does to other teams.
they would ask for Ostlund.

20OA, 2027 1st, 2027 3rd, 2027 Sharks 3rd, Ostlund.

I would make that deal in a heartbeat
Think it would be Quinn and Östlund. After we tell them no you can't have Carny or Doan.

Hey Pierre, I got a package you can… ummmm… get…

Never mind. Just stop perpetuating this horrible rumor!

TSN and their analysts have been pretty unwatchable since the business deal of Sportsnet covering most hockey

Really do not like this roster at the moment. I'm not panicking, but once again, questions at C, D and goal tending. Too many forwards, too many goalies, and not enough D.

No way Jarmo even considers that as a legit request.

Is he any good? Maybe in a rotational system we could use him against lesser teams?
His numbers look good, he played 19 minutes a game for Colorado which suggests he can still keep up with high tempo to some degree. Obviously a risk at his age, but there is not much to choose from in this UFA class...

I wish we knew who the Rangers really wanted at #5. We could tell the Rangers we're picking them at #4 unless they want to give us Trocheck to swap picks as part of a bigger package. Then we pick Reid or Viggo - whomever is left.

When Jarmo says he may listen to offers, it might be a team close behind us - Rangers, Calgary, or Seattle - who see the guy they want on the board and Jarmo has a couple guys he likes and thinks he can get in their spot - and then swaps picks and gets a player out of it. I'd be more OK moving down to 5 - 7 and still getting one of those top centers or defensemen and getting a nice piece out of it. That would mean waiting until the actual draft to see that trade.
