Whats going on with Ryabkin switching to the USHL? Does it making drafting more attractive now he is no longer in Russia?

Maybe, but I guess you first look at what kind of player he is, but I don't like Ryabkin, I hope Sabres don't pick him.

Do you see Martone being picked ahead of Misa/Hagens?

All in all, picking in the top 4 has me a little glum (besides the obvious that it means the Sabres had yet another shit season). The best prospect is a puck moving LD. I'm not on the Martone bandwagon. And Misa/Hagens leave me a little meh. I agree that center is the way to go, but I'm a little underwhelmed with their upside and fit with the Sabres.

I like Martone and Hagens the most. Sсhaefer is of course strange for us, Misa is fine.

Also Schaefer is left handed I don't see Buffalo taking him so thats good.

I think we get a top 5 pick. I am hoping Frondell or Eklund get picked ahead of the top 3 Misa, Martone and Hagens and one of them fall in our lap.
 
Not gonna lie. Every time I watch Martone I come away thinking "That's just Tuch. A slower skating Tuch, but Tuch none the less." It could be 90pt tuch from 2023, but I wouldn't bank on that.

I think Martone is a better playmaker than Tuch.

Being honest....after I read BMac's rankings.....I did have an EA Sports Be The GM moment:

Get #1.
Take Schaefer.
Trade Power and Byram.
Find a defensive LHD to pair with Dahlin and a veteran RHD to pair with Schaefer.

Boom. Defense fixed.

just don't ask me about forwards

Interesting plan, but it seems difficult to implement. But we could have the funniest and stupidest top 4.

Byram - Dahlin
Schaefer - Power

And Kevyn would be delighted. :laugh:

There is no Sabres saviour in this draft in my humble opinion. We need players with consistency, vision, coachability and total commitment to a 200 foot game. Skills and skating? Yes. But experience and willingness to go balls to the wall every shift within a proper structured system seem to be the biggest team weakness. Yes a Cole Makar even a Cole Makar light would help -but I would trade our pick for a couple of players that would enforce a structured 200 foot game provided they were at least better than average second line skilled/second pairing RD. Maybe we do that with our prospects...
 
My opinion has always been that when you get into the lottery pick area, BPA applies but the tie goes to centers. I don't see a ton of difference between Schaefer, Martone, Hagens, and Misa. So if Buffalo is there, I'm going with Hagens or Misa.

Hagens is more of a 200 foot player, and a gifted passer. He's like a really poor man's Crosby. Misa is more skilled and will score more goals, and his offensive hockey IQ is really high. Buffalo could use either one as a center.
