Sexy new interface here just in time for the resumption of the Expanded College Football Playoff. All four teams in the semifinal beat a team who received a bye. That means that teams who won their conference were 0-5. The emphasizing of winning the conference did not work out in this first year, but there’s no indication that it will change. Both games listed for 7:30pm starts.
Tonight, it will be the Capital One Orange Bowl in Miami. Not the site of the 2026 NHL Winter Classic. #4 (6)Penn State had two extra days off than their opponent #5 (7)Notre Dame. As we’ll see if James Franklin has the Faculty focused and ready to contribute, or if they’re busy preparing for the spring semester. Just like the team they beat in the Fiesta Bowl, this is the game that Penn State has always wanted - The opportunity to be within two wins of a national championship, and play against the blue bloods. And the Fighting Irish are definitely one of those. Marcus Freeman has had them running smoothly ever since their loss to Northern Illinois, which is now one of the great mysteries on college football. He has the coaching advantage with some of their maneuvers like we saw against Georgia. Now there is more speculation about Drew Allar changing his mind and going into the NFL draft after all, if Penn State wins these two games. ND opened as the 1.5-point favorite, but the game is currently off the board.
Tomorrow is the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic in Arlington, TX. It seems that #6 (8)Ohio State should get a bigger reward for pasting undefeated Oregon at the Rose Bowl than having to play in their opponent’s home state. But #3 (5) Texas is the last SEC team standing. It’s very interesting how quickly they’ve assimilated to being part of that conference. The Longhorns had to fight hard into double overtime to get rid of Arizona State, in what has been by far the best game of the Expanded College Football Playoff. But that means they’re the only team left who has seen their time be near an end. Is that enough for Quinn Ewers to keep the ship righted? Are NFL teams looking at Steve Sarkesian? Are people still asking Ryan Day about losing to That Team Up North? Will Jeremiah Smith opt outbid the next two years? The line has moved from 5 to 6 in favor of Ohio State.
