The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

We need NHLers that know how to play ik the NHL. Guys that have been around, but not the old vet just to get a vet type. Try to upgrade as many players as you can, even if it's just bottom pairing, 4th line or back up. Find better players to help the team. But who am I kidding, we they won't do that.
Iafallo seems like a natural target in free agency.

Yes, lets task Kevyn with this again. Wasn't this the feather in his cap this past offseason? 4th line was reinvented. Lafferty is a ghost or healthy scratch. NAK is gone already. And while I was kinda excited for Beck he hasnt shown really any flashes of buying into this team at all. His hits dropped off even before his injuries and has only been getting what an average of 9 mins a night maybe? Maybe you can blame this usage of a new 4th line on Ruff instead of Kevyn but it really doesn't matter since both will be here next year anyways and lafferty and Beck will be under contract and running it back likely with Krebs so I wouldnt set the bar high for upgrading the 4th line. This team has pidgeon holed itself in ways unimaginable even for us.

So what should sabres do this summer ? We lack a top center and with Norris injured often we Will miss a second line center (McLeod a good 3
Center but would need to be 1 center in Buffalo)

We seem far away from playoffs now
And if in would have hard advanced from first round.

Hagens could he be a good first line center ?

For me... there are only a couple of key moves to help the Sabres a playoff team if you believe in Kulich and Norris. Is Ostland ready? STILL need a RHD and Goalie. Hypothetical roster....

Kulich - Norris - Tage
Zucker - McLeod - Tuch
Greenway - Ostland - Benson
Malenstyn - Krebs - Lafferty

Dahlin - Byram
Power - Schneider
Bryson - Clifton

Demko
Vet

Sure, draft Hagens or O'Brien as future C but they can marinate. See ya in 2026/27
Let's assume Norris is healthy... LOL Doubt we can land EP40.
Is Ostland ready for 3rd line minutes? Looks great in Rochester.
I traded JJP + to the Rangers to get Schneider
Traded UPL ++ for Demko / or 1A Vet
Quinn can be a ++ out the door.
RE: Demko - Blackwood had all kinds of injuries and is now thriving in Colorado
Doubt we can attract an Ehlers / Pionk maybe Fabro

Holy shit.. Peterka plus for Schneider? That is actually gross.

No way that roster is playoff bound.

Looks not good man,
Please tell me what 23 year old 6'4' RHD you think we can land???
Where does JJP fit? under your fantasy roster?
What UFA do we land?
Schneider was pretty terrible and isn't in the top 4. I'd go with Whitecloud or Kesselring then.

Kesselring would be great but doubt he is avaialable. MAYBE Whitecloud.....
When you are trading someone like Peterka then Kesselring is available. You aren't gonna get someone like Peterka without losing good players unless your GM sucks...oh damn.

Crouse + Kesselring for Peterka? Its unfortunate Crouse's offensive production has fallen off a cliff. If he lost his love of the game in Utah wait until he gets to Buffalo.

If Crouse was scoring more he wouldn't be available. I would do Kesselring and Crouse for JJ. I double Utah would.... TBH What would it take to include Sammy and Krebs.

For a player like JJP I think he would be. Why do you think our player who are almost at a point per game pace, being paid 885K entering his prime is worth so little?

Another game with a .850 save percentage. Not going to win many games like that.
Yes, this team has issues but UPL is the number one problem with this team. At this point in the season the numbers don't lie. He's not even in the top 30 in all key stats.
If you look at the lineup, it's not great but it's also not bad. We should at least be in the top 20, AT LEAST.

I'd rather have Ostlund marinate for another year. The two grads who should be coming out of Rochester are Johnson and Rosen, either as roster players in Buffalo or as trade pieces. Kozak can fight Krebs for the 4C spot.

For me it’s;

Thompson- Kulich/X-JJ
Tuch-Norris-X/Kulich
Greenway-McL-Zucker
X-Krebs-Malen
Laff

Dahlin-Bryam
Power-X
Clifton-X
X,Bryson

UPL
Levi

Got to get a gritty 4th liner who will throw down if needed. If its a C, Krebs can move to W.

Id hope to resign Gilbert in the summer to be the 7th. If not, i need someone just like him for the 7th spot

I want a vet D(hopefully a physical one) for 6 to play with Clifton.

Trade Quinn plus whatever other prospects or picks needed to bring in another top 6 scoring threat and a partner for Power. A top 6 C or a top line W whatever it is, at least one of the two options is 100% needed. the Power partner need is going on 3 seasons of being obviously required.

Might not be popular, but for me I want Benson to start the year on the top line in Roch. I love his gritty game, but we need to let him get those top line, top PP mins in Roch to develop his offensive game. Otherwise he might become the next Krebs where all the third and fourth line NHL minutes seemingly kill all of the offensive potential that was once there

It just feels pointless ranting about the roster and what upgrades are needed when our coaches clearly are incapable of figuring out the strengths and weaknesses of the current roster and tailoring a strategy around what they have. They hired the wrong coach for what they have and instead of cutting their losses they're going to double down.

Is the Krebs and Kozak thing figurative or literal? Or both because that would be entertaining at least...

- Teams hire Lindy.

- Their young goaltender goes completely to shit.

Think I see a pattern here.....

I don't know what to say if you think UPL/goaltending is our #1 issue. Seems like stat watching more than game-watching.

The team defense is back to its tricks from 2 years ago -- constantly allowing cross-ice passes, never tying up guys in front of the net, etc etc.

UPL proved last year that if the defense keeps high-danger chances down, he'll give the team a chance to win every night. This year, there are FAR FAR more "no chance" goals that are being allowed.
