The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

There is going to be a lot of good players and a lot of defensemen hitting free agency(Given they don't sign before July 1st)

There is no reason why a competent GM can't put together a playoff team for next year even if the Sabres have to overpay.

Problem is Adams ain't the guy to do it.

Remember when Calgary wasn’t moving Tkachuk either?
I do, Tkachuk told them he wasn't signing an extension in Calgary and Calgary has since been trying to get a wild card spot without success. I can't imagine Ottawa looks at that and says "sign me up". Plus Brady is already signed long term and hasn't asked for a trade.

Some of the stories out of Ottawa don’t paint a rosy picture of the relationship between Tkachuk and Senators management. Maybe he asks out? Getting to the US seems like a thing for that family.

Calgary’s decline was well in hand prior to the Tkachuk trade. Monaghan was in decline and Markstrom’s worsening play had a great deal to do with the drop in play.

Servavalli: Peterka is one of the "Malcontents" in Sabres locker room with offer sheet threat an option.

Who are the other Malcontents?

The vibe I get is that the Tkachuks see themselves as above certain organizations and there's no doubt in my mind we are one of them. Would be like Shanadouche in Hartford if we traded for Tkachuk.

I'd say the malcontents are the front office, owner and tge coaching staff. Already working on an easy out strategy when they trade the 'malcontents' for garbage once again.

When Lance was on with Marek, he also talked about how JJ is the new Zemgus and is Pegula's pet.

I would be surprised if JJ gets traded if that is the case.
He could be Pegulas pet, but threatening to sign an offer sheet or requesting a trade will spoil that quickly. Pegula loved Jack once too.

If Brady wanted to play with his BFF again, Walt & Matthew slap him around and tell him to either stay in Ottawa or force a trade to a contender like Matthew did when he got to Florida.
Possible. I just don’t count out Buffalo. Ottawa wanted Peterka, Brady may want out, and he’s got no trade protection before July 1.

If Ottawa got a serious offer before July 1, they might move him. That gives Buffalo a fighting chance.

I think it is a huge pile of hopium with no basis in the reality of the situation.

Ottawa is in a WC spot today.

The Sabres are on track for a top 5 draft pick. Again.

If Brady wants out, I doubt Ottawa moves him to a division rival for a package that is likely a lesser top 6 winger and futures. That makes zero sense whatsoever.

The Flames had 111 points and won 59 games in the season before Tkachuk got traded. That was good for 1st place in the Pacific. So where Ottawa is today really means nothing for a trade.

The division rival thing is way overblown. Big trades happen between division rivals. They happen. Reinhart is on Buffalo, Sergachev was on Tampa, Kessel was on Boston. There’s more.

Ottawa reportedly asked for Peterka. That makes a ton of sense for them. He was a great winger for Stutzle, who is their franchise player, not Tkachuk.

There’s more here than you’re letting on to, just to make a point. I’m not saying it happens, but there’s a starting point for a discussion and it’s not out of the realm of the possible.
