The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

Looking ahead to next years roster...

XXX-Norris-Tsge
Zucker-Kulich-Tuch
Greenway-McLeod-XXX
Malenstyn-Kozak-Lafferty
 Krebs

Others--peterka, quinn, benson, Rosen
-' both Benson and Rosen can go to Rochedterwithout needing th o clear waivers

Sam-Dahlin
Byram-XXX
Power-Clffton
RyJo-JBD

UPL
Levi

Then there is cap space

Levi $1.5M
McLeod $3.5M
Kozak, RyJo, JBD-$1M/League min
Krebs is the 13F

Based on current contracts and that cap space in a 13/8/2 roster

They need to sign Byram. Get a RD, a LW and a RW. and 13F with around $19M in space

I see one of Power/ Byram/Sam traded and one of Peterka/Quinn traded

I think if the sign/ match OS on Peterka to a high contract exposes Quinn to a max 2nd comp OS

I'm skeptical on that Rangers offe. I think it was a convoluted 1st and a cap dump like Zibs or a LD they dont need

Well. If buffalo signs all their rfas to market level deals and doesn’t move any salary out, they will be close to the cap. Is the team willing to spend that much to be close to the cap?

They will be spending 13 million more if they ‘run it back’ in terms of salary than this year.

Maybe an offer sheet isn’t about whether they have space or not but are they willing to spend it. And that will be after the buyout period is over so they won’t have easy options to cut costs. And what if that player has already asked for a trade?

It’ll be an interesting summer, that’s for sure.
Why in the world would we sign Bo Byram?

Pay 7 plus to retain a redundant skill set that can only play with the guy anyone can play with?

I agree, but why would we trade our 60 point top 6 C to get a guy we don't even need. I'm not high about Power either, but having Byram on the team makes almost no sense.

If you had a competent coaching staff they would absolutely compete for a playoff spot with that center spine. The idea that you are the expansion Caps if you don't have a generational star center just blows my mind.

Norris is too many injury, Kulich is too young, it's already a double risk. I agree regarding your comment about coaching staff, but I don't like this plan for top 6 C.

Uhhhh

A first line center with a history of injuries and below average even strength production

A second line center, not drafted as a center, in his second season, currently at 19 points in 49 games

McLeod woohoo

And a rookie

...kevyn or whoever the GM is would get torn to pieces if they said they were making a serious push for the playoffs, went in with that group, and didn't make it

If Thompson can figure out the D zone as a center that would fix a lot for Buffalo.

And if Peterka wants out, so be it. Ottawa and the Rangers wanted him. A Tkachuk deal would solve a lot of issues for the Sabres in terms of toughness and character.

My son had a good thought after the Detroit game. He said “play all the rest of the games this way, see who really wants it.”

Two players who I changed tunes on recently are Thompson and Samuelsson. Thompson is diving right in. Good on him. Samuelsson is wallflowering. He can go.

Ottawa isn't moving Tkachuk

I do not believe a competent coaching staff would be pushing for the playoffs with:

a 2C in the 1C role

an unproven 21 year old Sophomore in the 2C role (how did that go for Mitts, and Cozens? are we really doing this for a 3rd time??)

A legit 3C in McLeod. (hang the banners, we have a legit player actually playing the role they are suited for)

4c a kid with 12 career NHL games

Just an observation… the last 2 games with Detroit ( Tuch fighting, Thompson semi fighting and the others plus penalty minutes) and the hit on Kulich ( and the response by Krebs and readiness of Clifton) might have brought this team together. Time will tell but I like what I saw in terms of unity among most of them.
