The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

As crazy as this seems. I honestly don't think the sabres are that far away. The pieces to get where we all want to be are there

THEY NEED AN EXPERIENCED GM AND YOUNGER EXPERIENCED HEAD COACH

(Ruff would work if he was 10 years younger)

You get a GM that can trade and shape a roster the team will be in great shape. More Tim Murray instead of kevyn

I don't think it's crazy at all. A younger and worse version of this team had a .555 and .512 points percentage the past two years. It should be noted that the latter was an injury riddled year as well. If they had a similar win % this year, they would be in the top 8 or within a game or so of the playoff teams. This team, as currently built with its roster construction flaws, should be in the playoff race right now.

I'm going to keep banging this drum, but their offseason prep continues to be my #1 concern. It's a direct product of the youthfulness, these guys do not appear to be dedicated to being year-round professional athletes yet.
  • Peterka's overall game hasn't grown
  • Quinn has looked weak and slow all year, and his pucks skills actually took a step back
  • Cozens puck skills and shot took two months to round into form
  • Sammy doesn't look any stronger, faster or more durable
  • Even Tuch & Tage looked like they needed some time to get their hands and shot back
The roster construction isn't as far off as people think, for me it's two major addditions:
  1. Prime aged, top 6 forward with sandpaper in his game
  2. Top 4 right-handed, defensively reliable defenseman
/End List

Use whatever combination of players and prospects to make it happen. please and thank you.

I've very curious who you have in those two categories as possible targets.

I think Crouse becomes the new scapegoat here, but I'd probably do that.

There seems to be a long list already. He could queue up though if it happened.

I don't think we go anywhere until we get some legitimate Centers.

And it is nearly impossible without drafting them

The unlikely hope that Kulich can somehow turn out to be Czech Hintze is about what I come back to. Or that Helenius or Ostlund turn out to be an Aho. Any of those seem like slim odds.

Maybe the off-ice stuff is to his liking - not sure if he's fallen for someone local or if he just likes that he can get more of a house in B'lo than most other places for less money.
Even though much of the fan base wants them gone, I wouldn't be surprised if he feels valued by Lindy and kevyn and wants to stay at a place that appreciates his game.

I'm sure every GM and coach around the league would express that when trying to sign him, but you never know until you're in it

Also going back through last night's game, I wonder if some of the shuffle on the blueline was so people could look at Byram or Samuelsson in different roles - one with and one without Dahlin.

His vibe does seem to fit Buffalo.

I think he knows the potential of Buffalo being a strong hockey market without the huge media coverage.

Since he's been here, you can seem him become more confident and doesn't seem nearly as skittish talking to reporters.

You know how everyone feels about Jokiharju? That's how I feel about Samuelsson except that's backed up by the eye, results, and fancy stat tests.

Dylan Cozens should not have the puck on his stick ... he doesn't have any puck skills. I think our lack of true center men consequently hurts certain wingers.

Cozens should be parking in front of and crashing the net.

That's understandable. I think one of Samuelsson's LBIs involved having his balls cut off and one of his UBI's was having motivation and executive function pithed out of his brain.

I have nothing to back this up, but the vibe I get is someone who started bullying teammates instead of opponents.

The only thing left to try, outside of selling the team, is to hire an experienced hockey executive to run things

He started out as owner allowing Regier to buy free agents, that failed
He tanked hard with Murray and built up from there, that failed
He allowed Botts to build a big and expensive front office, that failed
He duped himself into believing Krueger could be McDermitt, That failed.
He allowed Adams to tear down and build back up with youth, that failed.

It would be nice if he tried an experienced guy just once. But I’m not holding my breath.
Same.

Eichelitis? Eh. Possibly. He's always been a well-liked guy on every team up to now - development level captain, good at keeping guys loose. Maybe someone finally called him on always being broken and he's sulking. He has recently struck me as very dude-bro.
