The 2024-2025 Roster Thread

The idea of a Tuch trade REALLY makes no sense.....unless Tuch has stated he wants out.

Imagine the shitstorm that would come out if they couldn't get a someone born in the area and who grew up a Sabres fan to stay? Ooof.
Especially if said player really wanted to stay here up to the point if he gets traded. The failure of not keeping an important piece from a franchise altering trade and not giving him another contract is ridiculous IMO.

Why would a guy with options stay in Buffalo, after watching a team that supposedly had hopes and intentions of being a contender, fall flat early and watch the GM do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING all season, other than re-claim a back-up goalie that he was stupid to have lost to begin with? Starting at this time last year with the Mitts trade (KA showing how clueless he was about his C depth) the past 12 months has been the most blatantly obvious stretch of time since Pegula, to show how completely incompetent and un-serious the organization is. They don't want to compete, and even if they did they don't have one farking clue about how to do that. There's no doubt that Tuch knows by now that regardless of how much a Sabres fan he grew up, he's throwing the rest of career down a sewer if he stays.

This is truly the lowest point of the 14 years.

They have boxed themselves in where they have very limited options.

Every time they kicked the can further down the road, it was all leading to this. And that's through 2 management groups.

They're almost back to the end of the Regier era. Their top 2 centers aren't good enough and the defense is a mishmash of parts. Most of the forwards don't play on the right side of the puck regularly. It's just more and more and more of the same.

This specific thing has me very intrigued by a proposed JJ<->Shane Pinto swap. That’s the kind of move I can get behind.

But also I’m not sure I want Kyv making any roster building moves.

I like the player..but..I see him as a 3C .. What is the point when we already have McLeod?

I am wondering if this is a direct reference to names like Tuch being on the block.

One thing I mentioned during the cap floor "don't block the kids" years is that any culture gains done by the front office will be destroyed if they don't actually win.

The thought of the veterans being 'tired' of constantly losing doesn't bode well. I'm curious if this loops back to Tuch's name being out there.

Last season he was on pace for 50+ points, this season he has often played with questionable wingers as a 3C, but has also played as a top 6C at times. He seems to have very good numbers in the last 15-20 games, so he potentially looks like a decent 2C, and if we can't find a legit top 6C, I like Pinto.

wait til Dahlin gets the "loser blues"...

My guess is that Tuch's name is out there because other GMs see the constant losing and they see Tuch as the type of veteran that a competitor should add. Plus, he still has that very cap friendly contract that he signed with Vegas.

I doubt it's Adams shopping Tuch.

Best case, it's other GMs sniffing around and trying to add a quality vet.

Worst case, it's Tuch wanting out and his agent is telling other GMs to call on him and see if Adams will move him to a better situation.

I could see it.

It's another reason that I would go for EP40. I know he may not be considered a "winner", but you need to bring skill into this lineup so those that are already here continue to fight.

Absolutely. Now we're stuck trying to find one of the hardest roles to find for a team- a true 1C. How are we going to acquire that? I've lost all my excitement for EP40- he just doesn't look the part anymore. It's going to be rare for a legit 1C to become available. Even more rare for that player not to have some sort of NMC in his contract, and there is no chance in hell anyone wants to come here. Also, lord knows we won't have a GM savvy enough to pull off that type of trade.

The hope is for Kulich to become that 1C. Poor kid. He's going to be thrown to the wolves, isn't he?

I suppose you just build around a center spine of Tage/ Kulich/ McLeod. Perhaps they can get a solid top-6 C to move one of Kulich/ Tage to the wing, but even with a top-6 C addition- there's almost a 0% chance we'll have a strong enough center spine to contend in the next 5 years. If they can manage to get a top-6 C, build a strong combination of wingers to surround an otherwise lackluster center spine, and for the love of god- actually build a defense that...defends, then maybe we're a playoff team that gets stomped out in the early rounds.

That's the most optimistic view I have. They become a solid playoff team- but lack the top-end talent to become a contender. All that said, I have zero faith they can find a GM/coaching combo that will get them to that point anytime soon. Woe is us.

We can find 1C either in the draft (Misa/Hagens), which will also not be easy and not right away. Or in trade/UFA. I almost don’t believe in UFA, in trade now only EP40, which is also not ideal and is a wild card. Although I don’t believe that the guy who scored 90 points last season as 1C suddenly forgot how to play, I still want to have more information about this situation.

If Vancouver didn't think he could rebound, he would've been traded already. I believe there is plenty of production to had with EP, he needs a change of scenery and an offseason to heal. Buffalo gives him both, and he can play with Dahlin as a fellow countryman.

Being worried about people being good elsewhere is such a loser mentality. :biglaugh:

The paralysis has again set in. They should have already signed Zucker and Greenway ahead of this week instead of sitting around, waiting. Get on with it. You already suck, suck by doing something. Do the wrong thing. Do something.

There were a lot of us saying that so careful, the track will be very full with people taking a victory lap on that.

They were already supposed to sign Zucker in January, when he enthusiastically told Fairburn he was open to it.

Let's suck with an $11M center who can become a Whiner Line favorite!!!

Woohoo!!!
What if he score 90 points again? He didn't fall off a cliff three or two years ago like Cozens, he was good not that long ago and the reason for his fall is unclear, but you also can't be sure he won't come back as a great 1C.

Given the current state of the Sabres (and the state of the Sabres over the past decade plus), I am not going to bet on EP40 coming here and becoming the best version of himself.
