Crouse is a winger.
Thought I saw he plays C. Either way, still upgrade Cozens.

I think it's Cozens++ for EP or Cozens for Crouse + Kesselring, maybe with a little add from Buffalo. It'll be hard to get EP and they don't even need Byram anymore with a trade for M Pettersson.
If they Trade EP they are retooling. Young cost controlled players are going to be important.

Byram isn't that cost-controlled......and he's unneeded now that Hughes and MPete are their top 2 LHD....with Hronek entrenched as a RHD and Willander coming as the other RHD long-term.

They likely will not be interested in Byram in the slightest

How is Crouse an upgrade over Cozens?

He's cheaper and that's about it. He has all but disappeared offensively for Utah this season.

He has fewer goals than Jack Quinn (8 to Quinn's 11) and fewer points than Payton Krebs (12 to Krebs' 16).

Cozens has more than double the points that Crouse has this year.

Crouse is similar to Greenway and we need players like him, and adding Kesselring is also important in this deal.

EP....

what would you rather have..EP or mcjesus. Hes a 26 UFA If hes not signed in the summer

The McDavid idea is so fictional its not worth considering, especially with the cap skyrocketing. IF McDavid wanted to leave the Oilers, what would be the reasons?

- Bigger market
- Better run franchise
- Maybe lower taxes?

Either way, none of those boxes are being checked here.

EP is real and could be had. The only real caveat is you have to be sure he'd be OK with playing in Buffalo the next seven years and we don't get bent over a barrel

McDavid is just going to sign in Edmonton and be the highest paid player in the league.

Speculating on where McDavid could end up as a UFA is a fun exercise. Obviously not us.

I think Boston and the Rangers are obvious candidates for both he and Eichel. Philly could be a dark horse. Maybe Vegas if Eichel leaves.

EP has s much higher risk

Wasn't EP taken off the market? Sure he is still tradable for the right price but July 1st his NTC kicks in.

I don't see Vancouver trading him anymore.

The team has a better chance bringing is someone like Granlund and overpay for 2-3 years and kick the can down the road for a 1C

Also Bennett could see free agency if not resigned. He is not really a 1C but he would also be the type of player Buffalo needs. Bring in Bennett and keep Kulich at 1C and hopes he matures into the role.

I am just trying to be as realistic as possible because I think there is no way Adams trades for a 1C so these seems to be the alternatives. I think overpaying for Grunland or Bennett although also not realistic cause its Buffalo is still more realistic than trading for EP40.

How much do you think Bennett gets in free agency? Buffalo offer 1 million more than the other teams and see if he comes here. I think I would target Bennett over Crouse.

I agree that Granlund and Bennett could be options too, but I'm not even sure we have a better chance of getting those guys than getting EP40. Because they are UFAs and other teams will pay them too with that cap increase. I think it's very hard to count on UFA players for Buffalo, it probably has to be plan B or even plan C.

I have no idea, but I think a lot and why would Bennett choose Buffalo over some other team? Crouse is a winger after all, and you can add both.

Not sure Winnipeg would part with Vilardi but could offer up Power or Byram. Winnipeg is one team that could afford to trade a center away and could use a defenseman. Perfetti for Byram? Power for Vilardi? I don't watch Winnipeg so I don't know if there is a trade there or not.

The other issue is the NHL keeps expanding and the NHL center position keeps getting thinner and thinner. Everyone is looking for Centers except a few teams.

Thats why Buffalo would have to offer more money for Bennett but then Pegula would never do that.
Probably the Palat deal.
I would me more than happy to take Zucker's 5m add 1m more and sign Bennett.

I also think Granlund 2 years or 3 years x 6m probably could be had.

Buffalo is in a tough spot and is Pegula going to spend? Its a shitty situation and if I was a betting man I would say we are going into next year with very close to the same roster.

I would look at different options, try each of them until it works.

I know I'm on an island here, but if the Sabres lose Byram and/or Power, I really into Erik Karlsson. He's not the kind of player we've been desperate for, but I just love the idea of rolling Dahlin-X, Karlsson-X pairs for 45 minutes/night. I think it'd force opponents to play on their heels.

From what I understand is that EPs market will be reevaluated in the offseason by Vancouver

Granted this is a hypothetical based on having an owner with unlimited money (hypothetical...), but I was daydreaming about the return we'd get after retaining a bit on Cozens.

Him at $5M for 5 more years would commence a bidding war IMO. Not ideal to have $2.1M dead on our cap for that long, but it's not that different than some buyout scenarios for other players that have been thrown around.

Tbh same goes for Samuelsson retained down to $2.15M for 5 more years.

Like I said just a daydream, but retaining a bit to turn long-term deals into tradeable bargains is a strategy that interests me.

A couple things I know about McDavid:
- He's super loyal. He's not going to leave Edmonton easy
- He really wanted Buffalo to win the lottery during his draft year. He's got ties to Erie and family in the GTA. It would've been his perfect landing spot.

So it'll come down to money/family/area vs money/loyalty.

This is from a post on the Blues board:

"On Feb. 18, The Athletic's Matthew Fairburn was asked if an offer of Dylan Cozens, prospect Konsta Helenius, and a 2026 second-rounder would land Jordan Kyrou. His colleague, Blues beat writer Jeremy Rutherford, felt that would be a fair trade."

I'd do that. Blues board seems to lean no.
