We need to be in the bottom 3 to get Hagens or Misa… I am assuming Schaefer goes 1st overall possibly pick 2.
Unfortunately that just isn't happening. The Sabres roster is too talented, and every year post all-star weekend, teams around the league settle in to a steady grind, where the intensity drops a bit and teams conserve energy and play a less aggressive style for several weeks.

It is the time where teams like the Sabres come out and play their hardest and leapfrog the teams that have packed it in, and they go from 4th or 5th from the bottom to 9th or 10h. It's as predictable as clockwork.

This dude's takes are some of the worst around the league.

I get that the Sabres lack media coverage, and so anyone willing to put in the time to post content will likely have a platform, but holy hell, his content is total garbage more often than not.

Rakell is a product of his situation, and he is not going to be nearly the same player if brought to Buffalo. Connor Sheary had a fairly similar season to Rakell's current season playing with Crosby , except Sheary shared way less of his overall icetime with Crosby than Rakell, for reference. (53 points in 61 games with 53% of icetime with Crosby compared to 48 points in 56 games with 79% of icetime with Crosby for RR).

Sure, Rakell is a decent two way player, but he is 32. You don't trade a top prospect for for a guy like Rakell, especially if you aren't going to make the playoffs.
Matt Moulson (who was entirely a product of Tavares) should've taught us that lesson over a decade back.

Even though there's not a ton out there, I think there are decent options at forward.

The D situation seems tricker. Keeping Byram and Power seems like having too much money tied up there, but just a big hole if we move one. Have to find some reasonably costing guys that don't stink, like washington and toronto managed to.

TB fans don't seem think they're retaining Perbix, anyone know what that contract will look like?

Rakell gives them another adult that is fully developed.

They have had too many kids on the roster for a loooong time. Zucker has been a good add. Rakell would be another guy in that mold. And the replacement for Zucker if he doesn't re-sign with the Sabres.

There is a reason to add him. I just do not like the cost if it is Helenius.
Agree. I don’t mind trading for Rakell at all. Just not for a top end prospect.

McCann for Cozens
Rackell for prospects/picks
Resign or hockey trade Byrum
Trade assets or futures for Top 4 Defensive D partner for Power
Resign or hockey trade for Greenway
added... Extend or Hockey trade Zucker
Joker for a 4th

now post next year's lines lol...no better off
I do not know what you think your are going to get for this franchise better than a player similiar to Zucker (in Rackell), and a competent replacement for Cozens in McCann (C/W) who either come with no NTC or might waive.

Extending Byrum keeps a competent partner around for 26. Finally adding one for 25 after 3 years of not.

Center Spine of Tage, Kulich (or McCann), McLeod, Kozak

I should of added what to do with Zucker as well.

McCann is not very good in the center, so if you are going to get him you want to use him as a top 6 LW. And we still need the top 6 C. It's very dangerous and risky to go with Thompson and Kulich as your top 6 C, it's similar to Adams' style

you yourself have eloquently stated so well how little there is out there for center. You can't have it both ways.

I would try all the options and there are a lot of them actually, not all of them will give a 100% guarantee that they will be a good top 6 C, but we need this, since our top 6 C are not very reliable for various reasons.

I'd rather they try to land McCann or Bjorkstrand as well, but that doesn't seem to be where there is any smoke around this team making any changes.
I wouldn't view McCann or Bjorkstrand as options for the Sabres since they both have 10 team No Trade lists.

Seattle has given out some form of trade protection to the vast majority of guys on their roster that are eligible for protection.

Forwards:
Stepehson - Full NMC
Schwartz - 16 team No Trade list
Burakovsky - 10 team No Trade list
Bjorkstrand - 10 team No Trade list
Gourde - 23 team No Trade list
McCann - 10 team No Trade list
Eberle - Full NTC
Tanev - 10 team No Trade list

Defense:
Dunn - Full NTC
Montour - Full NTC
Oleksiak - 16 team No Trade list
Larsson - Full NTC

Goalie:
Grubauer - 10 team No Trade list

Wrong tactics, you do not use all the opportunities to improve the team. You call each player you are interested in and ask if he has Buffalo on the list and is he willing to give up this clause to come to Buffalo. Only in this way can you use all the potential opportunities to improve the team. Most will refuse, but a few may agree, for various reasons.
