There is never a day where firing Adams as GM would be useless.

That's the key thing, they don't and haven't had one another's backs through multiple GMs, multiple coaches, dozens of players. The one tiny bit of it they exhibited in the last decade was the outdoor game against the Leafs which lead to the Matthews-Dahlin crosscheck incident but it was such an infinitesimal thing. Nearly 20 years without it... that comes from the very top.

“What happened last game won’t happen again,” Tuch said Tuesday morning ahead of the Sabres' game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The words uttered by Tuch, Cozens and Ruff rang hollow to Sabres fans who have seen similar incidents throughout the 13-year playoff drought, especially in the wake of the news that Thompson will miss at least one game because of the hit. Noesen, meanwhile, did not receive supplementary discipline. The NHL Department of Player Safety considered a match penalty as sufficient punishment.

The Sabres’ toughness and togetherness were called into question, and it is up to this group of players to prove people wrong. The messaging following the morning skate Tuesday also was in stark contrast to what was said by Ruff and his players after Thompson passed initial concussion tests Sunday afternoon.

Mattias Samuelsson, one of four Sabres skaters on the ice during the hit, accepted responsibility and expressed regret. But one of the team’s leaders, Jason Zucker, told reporters that a win was a more impactful response than challenging Noesen or a teammate to a fight.

The anger Ruff showed during his postgame press conference Sunday likely was caused by the players who did not immediately stick up for Thompson. Samuelsson and Owen Power didn't even show emotion while Thompson was helped by head athletic trainer Rich Stinziano.

The best teams in the NHL don’t tolerate opponents crossing the line. The defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers, for example, swarm anyone who pokes at the puck after it is frozen by their goalie. There’s an abrasiveness and tenacity to playoff teams that has been lacking in Buffalo for more than a decade.

Well, the last big publicized team meeting (Pegula in Montreal) went well, so... :dunno:

I assume there will be a puff-out-the-chest fake-tough-guy fight at some point tonight. I assume it will be as impactful as the Gaustad Lucic fight.

Excuse me, I was told the culture was fixed two years ago because the groups of twenty something drank together after games.

Honestly, I really thought we were past this bullshit with that team, that season, hell, that moment. They really seemed to fight hard for each other and had real push-back as a group. Perhaps that's why I'm so disappointed with what they've become.

I'm not 100% where you are as far as it coming from the top..

But this always baffled me

I'd add in the brawl in Arizona (I believe) during the Eichel-era where they were pumped up after a end game brawl (Bogo was involved IIRC)

The "never go full Lehner" game. We thought they turned a corner and it was only one night. They went right back to being all for none and none for all immediately after that.

When Weekes did this with Pittsburgh last week, it turned out to be news about the minority stake in the team being on the market.

I’m not expecting anything fun.
As noted in a couple threads, the building in the background for circumstance, suggestion, or something else is the Delaware North Building...👀

Maybe it's because regardless whose fault it is, after so many years of losing and another lost season well underway, it's just hard to get or stay emotionally invested as a Sabre?

I don't think this is Pegula saying "no guys, don't stand up for eachother, please stop"... the guys just don't really care that much. You see it in the lack of a response like that, you see it in their inability to hold a lead, you see it any time there's even a little bit of pressure or adversity.
