Byram looks more valuable than Cozens right now. Even Peterka. The guy is on a 40-point pace, doesn't play defense, isn't good at center, isn't great at PP, and this is his second season of fall, not first. Pettersson and Cozens are simply heaven and earth as players, and there's a big gap between them if you take all the strengths of one player and the other.

Cozens is younger, producing at a higher rate 5v5 than EP, and has shown flashes of offensive ability, and still carries the defensive "workhorse" identity.

Risto was 2 years older, failed the stats test and eyeball test at every opportunity, and still returned a first rounder. To the credit of Philly, he's had much better analytics since he got out of here. While cozens value is far from peak I wouldn't be surprised if a 23 year old who has the "intangibles", and has actually had some success holds value around the league.

Not sure what to do with Byram without knowing the desired contract. Seems to be tradition of this team to give guys who are in contract years prime minutes that elevate their stats. He's played almost all of his time with power and Dahlin

I could see them trying to stock up for a 2-for-1 type deal that's either going to require they recall someone from Rochester or includes someone from Rochester so they got an extra pair of minor league forwards. Right now they are only carrying 1 spare defenseman (tonight Prow) but still have four spare forwards before getting Helenius and Wahlberg back in a couple of days. I can't see why they would want six spare forwards even if it seems that Neuchev is injured and Kisakov is on perpetual lift days.

Or even one of the pile of draft picks. The system is still too full of guys IMO. They can afford to use a non-first or two to improve the roster without really hurting a damn thing.

The Skinner thing was about how generalities based on nation of origin are weak.

And the big questions are about the character and makeup that Pettersson has and not just how he plays the game.

Personally, Pettersson is far from a perfect fit for what the Sabres need today. Matthew Tkachuk is the perfect fit for this team.

With the questions about Pettersson's lingering knee tendonitis and questions about whether the pressure of that big contract being a bit too much, and adding Pettersson is far from a lock for making the Sabres a lot better. And a trade for him could be very regrettable in a few years if he isn't a guy that can drive the bus here.

I think that if you add a center with Pettersson's skill and defensive ability, who would likely be playing heavy minutes late in games, it'd help fix the biggest problem this team has - holding leads.

Reading these boards, one would think this team was getting blown out 5-1 every game, but the truth is that if this team could win the games they have third period leads in and get the games they are tied in the third period just to overtime, and then lose, they would be one point behind Florida, in third place in the division, and a solid 7 points up on the wildcard spot.

Now much of that is coaching, but having a strong, two-way center is also a pretty big key to solving the issue.

It feels like they are back to where they were before the beginning of Regier's pain - needing better centers. Cozens has fallen down and Thompson's not good enough.

On a team that endeavors to win multiple playoff rounds -- I think Tage would be a fine/great/excellent 2C....and hell, Cozens might make for a perfect top 6 winger.

I think McLeod can be a 3C or a 4C on a team that endeavors to win multiple playoff rounds.

What we need is that legit 1C that pushes Tommer down and Cozens to wing (or out of the organization I suppose). I think we've only been saying that since LaFointaine left.....and then for the few years that Eichel wasn't actively wanting out of this mess.

Power has oodles of talent, and we’ve seen him flash the ability to be a dominant two-way defender, but yeah. Byram is the better player today, and I’m so f***ing sick of waiting and hoping for kids to get better while the team seemingly does nothing to develop them.

I've had that curious thought as well......but I think my issue with a Tage/Cozens duo is that both of them should be shooting the puck at high volumes.

Which is why an EP40 for Power 1-for-1 is intriguing.....because I think Cozens and EP40 would be a helluva duo.

I have zero issues with this. The transition of Thompson to C has stalled out. He's just not cut out for the defensive responsibilities the position requires. Let him move back to wing to focus on what he does best -- scoring goals.
