Will fix everything
I think with Petterson, the important realization is that our greatest asset is cap space here.

If Vancouver is set on moving him, they have about 6 months and change to do so.

Now, lets take a step back further and look at the teams who can take him on.

You look at Columbus as a team who could take him on and send no salary back. Calgary is there as well...but I don't think they want to move him within the division.

After that it gets Dicier.

His contract is going to be a limiting factor.

So, lets just say Cozens + for Pettersson is a decent base. I'm not seeing where Vancouver is getting a much better return unless they want a short term contract and a load of prospects from Columbus.

If columbus trade for him they're probably giving Fantili/Johnson + one of those russian zombies they got.

Ducks, Utah, Rangers, Canes (It looks like they almost had a deal with the Canucks before Pettersson signed a contract extension).

can be unrealistic as you want that’s why we’re on a forum but it doesn’t help the conversation
Neuchev is a solid prospect and Alvin seems like he is ready to move pettersson for whatever but cozens+Sammy is a good base and my original idea was cozens+sammy+top 10 protected 25 1st+ Rosen which might be to much I don't know how they feel about Krebs if they would rather have him than another prospect

The Canucks are looking for a second pair PMD, Sammy doesn't seem to be a good fit. I doubt this is a good base, I'm sure other teams can offer better. I don't even understand Sammy's value right now, given his poor start to the season and another injury. Cozens isn't shining either, but he'll probably be in the deal.

EP’s contract isn’t nearly tantalizing enough for them to set their own price

Was Eichel's contract tempting and with the experimental surgery? Unlikely. Guys like that get good returns and as long as he doesn't have trade protection, other teams will pay and the cap keeps going up. Cozens' contract also looks bad now while he's scoring 40 points, and the same can be said for Sammy.

Like Pettersson is still a very good 1C, and when Miller is out he continues to play solid and go at a PPG+ pace. He's also a very good two-way player and good on defense. He can shoot, be a playmaker, that's a very good base.

Columbus is gonna hold onto fantilli and Johnson those are non starters for them marechenko is not gonna move with his breakout they have monohan+picks+mateychuk that looks to be a base but van doesn't need more d prospects where Sammy is pro ready and able to be a shutdown guy who can play up and down the line up and be their tanev replacement.

I agree. Just there was plenty of talk about EP being mentally weak and not being able to work with Miller due to his competitiveness. Just wanted to highlight the other potential side of it.
Horvat had the same issue with Miller, seems like a Miller problem more than someone else being mentally weak.

EP is owed a 10 million dollar bonus July 1 so you can count us out.

I think the signing bonus would be an easier sell to ownership than Pettersson getting $14.5M in total cash for the 2025-26 season.

If you look at the structure of all the long term deals that the Sabres have on the books today, only Dahlin will get more cash than his cap number in 2025-26. And that is only $1M more in cash.

I’d make the EP move now as long as his knee is healthy. Sabres need a shake up.
Vancouver isn’t even scouting us, Adams clearly isn’t pursuing him. I agree that it should be priority #1 but it’s not happening.

Could be the salary, could be the injuries, could be the player, could be the trade cost, but something is scaring Adams off.

I'm still very interested, but I wonder if the desire from sabres fans cools at all. Lot of people back to attributing this team's issues to mental fortitude, a topic on which EP rightfully or wrongly has question marks

Mental fortitude comes with age. When you have the youngest team every year, it’s of course going to always be a problem.

It’s not the players and their mentality, it’s the players and their age.

I’d still try to make improvements - EP is like 26, which is older than most of the team. If you swap him with a 23 yr old, you just got more mature and resilient.

The other option is just to sit here for two more years and wait for them to mature.

I mean those aren't the only two options. Age doesn't always equal maturity and resilience. I'd still take EP, but not because we'd just raise the average age

So where do we think Zucker is going at the deadline and how much will he fetch? At this rate it’s got to be at least a 2nd. Do we think he could get a late first if he keeps up the scoring pace?

Also I know people were giving Chad a hard time I the gdt for talking about XG, but I think UPL is escaping some real criticism because he's had some very good games.

When we're leading we're middle of the pack in shot attempts against, xg against, high danger attempts against, but bottom 5 in save%.

But we don't have Miller. It seems to me that Boudreau said it all quite clearly, and the management of Canucks is acting very strangely.
