thats quite cheap for a not so long ago early first rounder & RD .
unless Damon Hunt is someone special and not just a random 3rounder.
a very late 1st & 2nd round pick
Hunt is basically the Wild's (now CBJ's) version of Ryan Johnson. Smooth skating, good passing, positionally-sound defenseman. Not overly physical, but just a solid new-age defenseman.

But will Adams trade? The temptation to draft again is strong, it beckons him, and Forton whispers in his ear "We need more picks".
He’s not capable of doing what I want him to do. Also known as what needs to be done. Drafting doesn’t fix this defense for the next five years. His utter lack of a plan here passed ridiculous the day Power showed up and hasn’t had a partner

For that cost, Buffalo probably doesn’t have confidence that their first will not be a lottery pick.
I understand that we all love the draft, myself included, but at some point you have to stop. Benson was a home run, and Helinius was the cherry on the cake, it's time to spend those assets on improving the youngest team in the NHL and making the playoffs. Jiricek definitely shouldn't have been a priority target.

I’m not defending the position. For the cost, there are going to be a lot of teams’ fans wondering why their GM didn’t beat that.

As much as we need RHD with top 4 upside…there’s enough questions with this player for me to give it a pass. I have a permanent red flag for players who want out of where they are before they even get off their ELC. This is the least desirable place to play in the league…largely because we don’t win. Gonna have to pass on the kids who have already pushed their way out of one place while believing they deserve more than they’ve earned.

What I need is for my GMs balls to drop and finish building an NHL roster

Well, we probably could have beaten that offer if we wanted to, so we didn't want to. No problem with that, priority to improve the lineup..
Would prefer a proven top 4RHD who is physical with experience. This team doesn't need to get younger thats part of the problem.

I agree too no problem with it. This team needs a Mike Weber or Jay McKee type. It didn't think they would be that expensive on the market.(meaning lower than a 1st round pick)

Part of the problem I see is there is not enough separation from the bottom teams to the wild card teams for teams to become sellers yet but this team needs help now.

They are already awash in PMD. Right now, Jiricek is that and those skills are already all over the top three. They need a Weeger or Forsling type to kill plays way more than that. I would have been more questioning their vision and roster building if they sank even more into yet another unseasoned PMD.

It's a complete gut feeling but I think Zegras will be a Sabre sometime this season.
I get it. But I sincerely doubt it. I can see Kev throwing a bag of lotto tickets for a vet, 2nd line center on an expiring contract. But I can't see him ponying up for a young unproven skill guy. We have those in spades.

Edit: Let me put my money on the table. I think, if Sea continues to flounder, a deal for Gourde and Borgen would make a lot of sense.

I would dangle Peterka to see what we could get for him. He drives me nuts. Can’t win a board battle to save his life.

This team has been a soft perimeter team for 10 years. How this has not been addressed is beyond me.

Didn’t catch this one, but it’s maddening to consistently lose to teams like the Isles- I just get into “best players” comparisons, and any way you slice it we should be better. Like- Olympic teams, re-draft, whatever it is, they’d be much more interested in our roster than the isles’. And yet- it’s like you just need to have any sort of identity and you can beat the Sabres. Shame.

I advocated for Lundell, lots wanted Rossi, Adams went Quinn.

I advocated for Beniers, lots wanted Power.

Which two would you take today?

I’ve floated the Peterka, Kulich, Jokiharju, and 1st trade for Tkachuk. If Ottawa agreed I’d make that trade in a nanosecond. At least Tkachuk has a heart beat and he plays tough.

I’d also move Quinn for Zegras.

I’d then look to move Thompson to free up cap, because those two moves put the Sabres over the cap. Try to get another defender.

I’d also be totally ok with moving Power.

What they’ve got iced isn’t working.

Maybe Ottawa will want to reunite him with Stootz

It won’t make any sense when we slip to 11th or 12th in the conference.

If I remember correctly, Boldy topped Cozens in the 2019 draft poll too (I'm happy with my vote)

If you’re looking to change the loser mentality of this franchise I can think of few players worse for that than Brady Tkachuk.

Guy is a massive loser with better PR because of his last name.
