When was Marino traded?

There are two main windows for player movement in the NHL:

The 3-4 weeks that is the week leading up to the draft through mid-July

The 3-4 weeks prior to the trade deadline

Outside those two windows, trades become rare and it is a lot harder to find a trade partner.

Since opening night, there have been a total of 5 trades involving NHLers. And one of them involved future considerations.

You can pitch a fit all you want, but that doesn't make other GMs willing to make trades that improve the Sabres right away.
How many of these trade windows have come and gone under Adams where we’ve needed a top 4rhd? Pretty sure he’s 8 for 8 on missing the window

What do you think is our biggest need in terms of our forwards are? Other than players that are underperforming. If you want, name an attainable player and where you think he would fit into our lineup.
We need playmaker, maybe some physical mid-six player, considering we only have Greenway and he's injured. I like Zegras (playmaker) as a potential 2C option. And Trent Frederic for a physical mid-six forward.

Agreed.

But Dahlin has been a top 5 dman the last few years (arguably), and he hasn’t been this year. Injury, weight of the C, whatever, he’s been a bit “off.”
Dahlin has been on a roll and has 10 points in his last 7 games....you could easily argue for him to be in the top 5 for this year considering he's right there.

If this team wants to make the playoffs we need 2nd line center and a stay at home defenseman who is physical that can pair with Dahlin.

This team isn't making the playoffs with the guys playing now. It doesn't matter what window is open or closed I give Adams about a 2% chance of pulling it off.

I agree about 2C, but I'm not sure about a partner for Dahlin, I mean ideally of course, but I think they look good with Byram in the first pair, although in some games it will bite us. But we need a partner for Power here and now. I think it will be difficult to get to the playoffs with the current roster.

Not the guy I'm thinking about. Western Conference. Guaranteed to start shit among the fans if they trade for him.
But who is this?

Close.

Right team, wrong center.
"Guaranteed to start shit among fans" = ROR

(NotABadPeriod first to reportl

Exactly.

Nah, it's Cody Eakin, he's secretly signed with someone obviously.

(Wasn't even thinking about Nashville, but ROR certainly fits the bill...)

It's the shit it would start with fans. But a 2C who would push Cozens to wing to figure himself out? Yeah.

Well, I think it is obvious that what Adams feels is a need and what others think is a need are very different things.

And he is another LHD, but Ekholm was the guy that has moved over the past few years that I felt was the best fit in the top 4. But, Adams didn't want to give up that big of a package at that point in time.

And I would really have loved to have known Ruff's opinion on Jokiharju vs Marino when Marino was getting shopped this offseason.

Considering how well his acquisitions have gone, I don’t get Adams’ hesitation in making more moves.

Greenway
Zucker
Our entire 4th line
Tuch

Even Byram is playing well (could argue about Mitts playing wel too, but whatever).

What are you scared of? Get guys that you think this team needs. Our kid line is killing us. We can’t wait this out anymore. I don’t know why you waited this long.
Adams talked about being open for business at the recent league meetings. And he was about the only GM that was being open about wanting to make moves.

I would not be surprised at all if Adams were making calls and other GMs were like, "It's too soon to sell off [player X]. But, we can keep in touch in case things go south over the next month."

Dahlin's got points in 7 in a row and 10 of his last 11 games (5-10-15 in those games). He did start slowly but he's been offensively contributing a lot more. Now... if he would stop taking stupid penalties, that'd be even better. But the game has come around after just 2 assists in his first 8.
Dahlin has been a slow starter for most of his career. Who knows why that is. But, it sure seems like a trend.

:dunno:

In his best season, he started fast. But if you look at Dahlin's career, it all becomes clear. First Housley, then the suffering with Krueger, then the adaptation with Granato and the best season of his career, now a new coach with a different system. But in general, we already know why Dahlin started slowly, he had an injury and Ruff talked about it.
And I would really have loved to have known Ruff's opinion on Jokiharju vs Marino when Marino was getting shopped this offseason.
How do we know? We don't. But Marino is at least better than Jokiharju in one-on-one play and he can push

That's his problem, he's open for business when other teams are barely trading, it's ridiculous. He sits and does little in the summer, why did he decide that he's okay with Jokiharju and the line of kids in the top 6. I wonder what his relationship is with Ruff, because it seems obvious that Ruff is not very happy with this situation.

He was more proactive this summer than in prior years.

He brought in 5 new bottom 6 players (McLeod, Zucker, Malenstyn, Lafferty, & NAK) and a veteran goalie.

He banked on his TDL move in the top 4 D and bounce back seasons in the top 6 Fs.

And if you look around the league, there were not a lot of moves that he could have made this summer that were locks to make the issues they are having better.

Plus, with all that, they are in the playoff hunt less than a week before American Thanksgiving.

But he didn't make the big moves, top 4 RD and top 6 F. He signed the fourth line because he had no other choice, Zemgus and Okposo are gone. Lafferty and NAKl are still meh. McLeod and Zucker are good, but he didn't finish his job again, there were options there.

What a massive miscalculation on Adams part to think this team would be good enough. After 5 years he is still trying to figure things out.

Lets hope his ass is gone after this season.

Virtually every team in the conference is in the playoff hunt right now.

It's clear that the organization currently views roster building as about getting the "right" guys, and not just "better" guys.

Deciding that we aren't good enough and doing the first thing that might make us better is how you end up like this

So banking on Cozens maturing a bit and playing close to how he was playing for Canada was “stupid?”

So banking on Dahlin coming in and playing like Dahlin was “stupid?”

Same with Quinn.

We all knew before the season that we still are a “draft and develop” team now, and that will have its growing pains. Is this team perfect? No, but they are competitive, young and will get better.

Zucker has been a good pick up.

McLeod has been one of the better players on the team.

They’re fast. We no longer are seeing Girgs and Okie ten steps behind. They’re in the thick of things. I know it’s an online forum but it’s not that bad.

Oh, about Dahlin….”but points…”. The eye test says that he has not even been close to his dominating self this year. Yes, he’s getting better, and the points are coming but there have been a lot of brain farts this year, which is very unlike him. With that said, we’re in the thick of things with 2 of our top 5 players not playing great.
