If a GM is looking for a big upgrade to the team only one month into the season, they clearly failed somewhere during the summer. It was either knowing what to do and not being able to reach an agreement, or simply not knowing what to do. I'd bet big dollars KA just overestimated his roster and didn't know what to do. Didn't realize the holes he left and still had to fill....in year five...

Well that's true and we knew it, he was lucky that Zucker and McLeod looked decent, otherwise it would have been a disaster. We knew that we were missing a top 4 RD and a top 6 F, now he's probably in a panic looking for improvements, and the Eastern Conference is loaded and very dense.

Is Zibanejad cooked? Rags fans seem to hate him rn

Guess he can't be moved anyway
Well, I think yeap, but if he had a contract for 1-2 years, and he will only become a UFA in 2030, that's brutal contract.

It's also possible his feedback from his new coach has indicated who is or is not the guy(s) the coach wants around.

I wonder if it's Power.
Ruff seems to be bringing in the right type of players atleast. I dont think Adams trades for Byram if Ruff is the coach, and Im thinking that's who will be on the way out.

I am concerned that the defense will ever be able to gel to elite status with the likes of Power, Byram, and Dahlin leading the charge. I just don't foresee Dahlin and Byram being a long term pairing that can excell in the playoffs. They're too leaky for my taste even if they can do some nifty things offensively.

Regardless, trading one of Byram or Power leaves another hole in the top-4. It feels like Adams is playing whack-a-mole; he'll whack a mole than another mole pops up. Maybe trading one of our premier younger players to bring in veterans who can fill the roles on this squad is the way to go. It just stinks he tried to fit a square peg into a circle with the Mitts trade. Had he got someone who could gel with Power- we'd be much better off.

Now we may have to trade someone like Power to fill those holes? That can come back to bite us hard. You just can't teach that type of skating and vision. The defensive side of things should come with time.

It's all speculation at this point, though. To Adams credit, ever since Ruff came along- his trades do seem to be panning out better.

Power so reminds me of a bigger version of Larry Murphy (though Power could also skate circles around Murphy) in that he's a pure playmaking defenseman who can struggle with engagement in his own zone. Hell, I think he would be their best LW if they moved him to forward from watching how he plays on the forecheck and his mid-range positioning as a shot option while playing defense. If they run him off, they're going to regret it.

As for Byram, I like him as a person but that deal remains mystifying to me.

They have heaps of development level players and a host of draft picks that they can look to move as well. They don't have to worry about cap issues since they have gobs of it and can take on full hits without suffering. Finding a stout shutdown RD (Chris Tanev would've been perfect IMO) or something for the 2nd line either at center (moving Cozens to RW) or at RW (moving Quinn down or out of the lineup) would be the places I think they should be looking.

Will fix everything
If you are hail marying the season already:

1. Claim Reimer or go get a veteran backup now and let Levi develop more.
2. defensive partner for Power and you hope your forwards can sort it out. There isn't an internal option on defense for a top 4 guy who can steady power.

I'd be all for adding a top 6 forward too, but I think in terms of ROI and impact on the team, having a 2nd pair that isn't getting nuked so you don't have to play Dahlin/Byram 30+ minutes a night

Adding another winger doesn't guarantee Cozens/Quinn will come out of their funks. Is Adams going to swing so hard he sends Cozens out to get a different 2C?

Weegar would be a perfect target for both Dahlin and Power. Weegar plays a lot of LD, and we know that Rasmus likes to be on the right side a lot. Weegar is good at defense, he is experienced, versatile and doesn't get injured. Of course, you will have to pay a price for him, but I think it's worth it.

Finding a top 4 RD for the second pair is quite possible, I wrote about it here not so long ago. Murphy from Chicago, Whitecloud from Vegas, Carrier from Nashville, here is at least one of them.

In this scenario, Byram gone, but it seems to me that our defense would then become more correct and balanced.

Weegar - Dahlin
Power - Murphy/Whitecloud/Carrier

Although there is another option that Weegar will play with Power, and LD or RD can play with Dahlin. It is easier of course to first add a partner for Power to begin with. In any case, there are various options on how we can improve our defense.

Lindy may not be a HoF’er but he’s a Hall of Pretty Good’er. Will he make the 9th best roster in the league a Stanley Cup Champion? No. Not without a little luck and the GOAT goaltender. But can he take the 9th best roster, win a couple of series, and get the roster to perform to its talent level.

I think what we’re seeing is that having a competent mid level HC in the org is really putting a spotlight on how terrible this FO has been.

That said, a GM who failed his 5th offseason shouldn’t be allowed to make any other trades or extensions.

I’m fully on board to fire Adams, let Lindy bring in his own GM, and once the on ice product is finished move him to President and get a new coach. Sign me up for a lifetime of 93 point seasons and first round exits from now until I die.

I didn't talk about trading Quinn, but what's the problem with Kotkaniemi?
KK is overpaid and has 6+ yrs left . CAR buy him out and we sign him for $2M I'd be fine with that.
The GM hunting for a big name in a trade one month into the season usually isn’t great. Trades like that happen during the offseason or at the deadline, because right now most teams don’t want to lose a great player while they are still in the playoff race.

The Pens are the only team I think you could pry a good veteran from right now (maybe the Sharks). Otherwise it would have to be a big name going the other way. Someone like Tuch or Power, not a prospect. Because the other team will need to feel like the trade improves their chances this year.

The whole thing just seems desperate, and I’m pretty sure Adams is going to do something dumb to try to save his job.
Why do you think it sd jig gf American hunting. Hoe do you know hes calling and not just making calls?
Buffalo hasc3 UFAd and Joker. Grernway, and Krrbs seems available.
Then you have folks selling sand on s public beach.

Zibs contract was bad before the ink dried.

Should have only done 3 or so yrs
