It’s the Canuck way. But, I’ve been tracking the standings for a while and even if they would have completely fallen off they wouldn’t have been passed by more than 2-3 teams.
Difference between 12 and 15 is pretty small I think. I also think they probably ending up dealing most of their picks anyway. Don’t let myself get excited about picks anymore.
For sure. At least with Romani, he has that elite shot / nose for the net that you see some poorish skaters succeed with at the NHL. It’s hard to see Pattersson succeed without significant improvements to his skating. And this isn’t to say Romani doesn’t need to improve his skating as well, he absolutely does, but I can see him succeed as a below average skater in the NHL.
I was a bit taken back when Jfresh put out his list of fastest and slowest in the league and saw that Jason Robertson was one of the slowest skaters in the league. Dallas plays really fast so you don't notice how slow he really is.
It just goes to show that a well-built team can compensate for slow footspeed with quicker puck speed.
Exactly. Van is not a well built team. I think well built teams are done through drafting and then adding pieces when needed and not before or at random. Other league execs shouldn't be constantly asking "what is going on in Van" Lol.

The fastest Canucks teams I've witnessed have not had many elite skaters. Instead, they moved the puck insanely fast.
The 2011 team is my favorite example of this. Kesler, Raymond, and Hansen had great wheels, and Burrows to a lesser extent, but the rest of the forwards were very middling skaters, yet that team was extremely quick because of their ds ability to transition the puck up the ice/join the rush.
I don't really have a lot of hope for either of these players, although it's good to see them finishing their seasons strongly.
Oh for sure, they are both still relative long shots, and Pattersson, in particular, is close to write off territory and may not even get a contract. But, at least with Romani, the counting statistics for his age were quite good last year, and I think that his significant injury bought him some time this year as well, and so if he can continue to score like he is in the playoffs then at least you can see that he might have some potential moving forward.

“He’s developed really well. He’s a defensive defenseman, lockdown, and he’s good at what he does,” Celebrini said about Aiden.
While it is unlikely that Aiden and Macklin will play on the same team in the NHL, RJ still has a chance to join his family.
“That’s what we are all dreaming of,” Celebrini said.
Growing up in Vancouver, the Celebrini family were Canucks fans, so naturally, they watched the Sedin twins have magical chemistry.

Anthony Romani with an assist, 2-1 Barrie in the 2nd period. With the win they can take a commanding 3-0 series lead
I said he was close to write off territory. Scoring under a point per game in your draft plus one year in the OHL is pretty poor production, and I think saying he is close to a write off isn’t overly unfair. This is, admittedly, purely based on statistics though, and he he could have an abnormal development curve and turn things around.
That's also horrendous stats for cole Beaudoin as a first rounder.. Riley Patterson is trending to be a fringe Ahl player sorry to say. Which is still an accomplishment in it's own.. let's see how our development truly is with these late rounders now.
I’m going to give my final verdict on Patterson after next season ,
But if he is inconsistent again next season , then I agree with you he will be a fringe AHL player at best
Barrie Colts are also one of the lower scoring teams. Only 1 super overager PPG guy and Romani that are PPG. So Pattersson being tied for the lead in points on the team and having a larger impact than his 1st rounder teammates Beaudoin and Hemming is actually not bad at all.
he should be carrying the team on his shoulders if he was a legit high end prospect.. the team would rally behind him. He would make them a higher scoring team.
You still have to play within the teams system.
There is plenty of offensive talent on that Barrie squad; it’s clear they are coached to play a defense first type of game, and also have a lot of depth up front.
I’m not even necessarily commenting on Patterson as a prospect. But, unless you are a truly exceptional talent I don’t think this is a team anyone is going to put up huge numbers playing for.
Dalyn Wakely put up 104 points for North Bay last season. He played this entire season as a 20 year old for Barrie and put up only 58 points in 55 games.
Emil Hemming is a 1st round pick and put up only 48 points in 60 games. I don’t think his numbers mean Riley Patterson is the better prospect.
I think this is a case of a team that you can’t simply stat scout.
i guess were gonna have to see? ill give him one more year.. i never really write off a prospect until their 23ish.. so many variables.. now Klimovich i was actually very high on but i think hes gonna be in the KHL in the next couple of years.
Barrie got absolutely hammered last night 9-4 by Kingston .
On the positive side Romani finished with 2 assists . Whole new series now as it’s tied 2-2. Let’s see if Zbarrie has an answer or if they go home early

Barrie wins it 2-1 , and now are up 3-2 . And can go too the Eastern Conference finals with another win
