Prospect Info: The 2024-2025 Prospects Thread

i think one person speculated that this was a reward for him coming to dev camp every year on his own dime.

Me. It was me speculating. Canucks did the exact same thing for Zlodeev as well. Kid kept showing up for prospect camps and paid his own way. When he started to have trouble finding playing time in Russia, they brought him over on an AHL deal.

Okay that's fair and shows that he has more to offer than just what he brings offensively or has rich parents?

I think it's a reward that the Canucks feel they can give, and we've seen them do it recently with Alriksson & Hoglander, to prospects and young players who have been committing to the team. Essentially are paying him back and using him as an example to everyone else.

Romani is more than ready for the AHL in my opinion. With his scoring prowess we will absolutely need that scoring punch in the AHL , especially if he continues to produce at this rate in the playoffs.

Had Romani played an entire season in the OHL at this level we would all be begging Allvin to secure him to an ELC but he is most certainly justifying an ELC now with this red hot form and showing why we took a flyer on him for his offensive upside
we will see.. why rush him, an overage year would do wonders.

Just out of curiosity, how would an overage season do wonders in your honest opinion I’m quite curious as to why you think that after , Romani has already played 4 full years of junior ( A deep playoff run and him playing at this level of dominance will offset the early season injury he suffered

He already seems to be dominating at that level. He’s got a good frame, not undersized. Why would you keep him down when he’s ready for the next step?

I could understand if he was undersized, or wasn’t doing well at that level but neither are the case. It’s unusual for players with any sort of future to play their 20yr old overage yr in junior. They move on.

You know what, thinking about it now he is dominating after his rusty start after the injury. I mean his skating isn't ahl ready but the way the canucks are developing prospects now im down. I'm used to 2002 to 2020 development. We are turning picks into something finally.

Fair enough. In the years I’ve been watching them they’ve never been able to consistently tune up prospects the way they are right now. Players would go to the Canucks farm team to end their hockey careers. The odd pick would make it through but what we’re seeing now is a revelation.
Not sure if it’s better drafting or better development or both but it’s a welcome change.

It's a mix of both for sure. I love how we cooking our prospects correctly and not rushing now. Some of our old prospects would have seen some better results with this development team.
Shinkaruk, Jensen, shirokov, Schroeder, gaunce , Virtanen, Juolevi, koltsov Are some of the 2016 and before that I had high hopes for, and looking back our drafting was absolutely atrocious.
and yes I aged myself there, I used to post on this forum wayyyy back in the day lol.

Guess whoooo , You said it !!! Anthony Romani with his 7th goal of the series and adds an assist , Barrie wins 6-3 and takes a commanding 3-1 series lead over Niagara in Round 1.

I like what this kid can do

almost 20 years of posting, and was leaf fan before the Canucks joined the league. Is that dating myself enough. I have to date myself, no one else will. And seriously looking forward to this draft.

As I have said to many times, unless you are a top 8 team for 2 - 3 years, you shouldn't be going all in or trading draft picks. Bloody Aqua man wanting revenue when he is already wealthy. Prick. Let the team percolate, accept a few years of trying to grow.

Edit - I know we have this interior problem of giving our superstar Hughes a belief that this team can win, and need to be competitive to get him to re-sign here. I also agree with a few of our moves, like getting M Pettersson for a 1st rounder. I didnt like trading for Lindholm last year, thought the price was too high. I was against the Hronek deal as well, but have to admit that was probably a positive in the long run.

I don't mind trading draft picks and assets if we get + value for them. Dim Jim was a disaster at this. This crew seems to be mostly competent. But none of these short term quick fixes that gut our futures.
