Prospect Info: The 2024-2025 Prospect Thread: Part 1: Skate or Die!

It really is virtually nothing. That's not hyperbole at all. I keep hoping for one of the OHL prospects to go on a heater so I can talk myself into dreaming a bit, but no dice.

Back in the slums of European hockey, however, another D, Hugo Gabrielson, continues to climb up the points standings in the Allsvenskan. I won't be shocked to see him get a contract and come over to Abbotsford next season. Before you slam me for that, I'm not saying it'd be a good move, just that I can see management making it.

I'd be pretty surprised if they signed Gabrielson. It's nice he's had a good season in the Allskenvan and looks ready for a move up to the SHL but it's happened a year too late. He's also still a Benning pick so they don't have any skin in the game here.

Past Lekkerimaki and Raty you have Sasson and Mueller as potential 4C types but nothing with any real upside. Bains has stagnated this year, unfortunately.

Yeah, we have a weird thing right now where we have 4 defenders that look relatively close (EP2, Willander, Kudryatsev, Mancini) plus a 5th in Mynio not too far behind that ... and then virtually nothing behind Lekkerimaki and Raty up front.

Let's hope that Mueller makes that next step up next year and plays his way into a B-prospect.

I do think that next year they will make so sort of prospect swap involving Kudryatsev or Mynio. If those two have strong camps and potentially push for the team it puts the Canucks in a good spot for a lateral move.

Yeah, I'd expect one of Kudryatsev or Mynio to be moved before the summer.

I can't see them moving Willander (best D prospect they have) or EP2 (unique skillset) or Mancini (literally just acquired him) so the two smaller guys who are a bit further away are certainly the most likely bets.

I would rather see them moved after pre-season. If Kudryavtsev has a strong camp and can potentially push for a spot it would boost his value morose then just a summer move.

I'm happy with M-Pettersson since he is a good player, I just wish that there were a RHD available. M-Pettersson just clogs things up even more.

I think we'll see one of those guys moved before the deadline as one of the main pieces as we try to acquire another youngish forward.

I am still hoping that Alriksson is able to handle Abby next year. Maybe get a game or 2 in Vcr. Possibly be on the 3rd line in 2 or 3 years.

Cap wise, the Canucks are on a roll. They've unloaded Miller's contract and the one year remaining on the deals for Heinen and Desharnais, saving $12.2m. If you wer to add in Soucy, that's more than $15m off the books for next season. If you include Boeser on an expiring contract, that's more than $21m.

Adding Chytil takes off $4.5m from that total, but Marcus Pettersson and O'Connor are impending UFA's, so until they either re-sign or leave that still leaves a ton of cap wriggle room.

It's now being reported that the Canucks will be shopping at the TDL with close to $10m in their jeans. Just wow! There could be some big names out there for that kind of money.

With the cap going up as well in coming seasons, my dream is mega-deals for Rantanen and Marner that they couldn't refuse. It would make being a Canuck fan worth all the short-term misery.

Next year's cap is 95.5M. 3.25M for a bottom pairing dman that anchors the bottom pair is about the going rate. Soucy is going to kill his minutes on the 3rd pairing. It's where he belongs as a #5.

It is all very Canuck-like to clear all of this cap room at a time when the cap is going to way up over the next 3 years- all while almost every team is going to have lots of cap room to go after the names we want as well. How long will it take us to overpay for layers and be right back in cap hell again?

i think people are still sleeping on mueller. he'll never be a star but i think he could be a very good 3rd liner eventually. his game just translates so well as he moves up levels

i'm a lot lower on lekkerimaki and willander than most. i think both are okay prospects but i think both have pretty significant flaws that'll keep them from being impact players in the league. lekkerimaki just isn't dynamic or creative enough to be more than a complimentary scorer and willander is just so average outside of his skating

i do think i was wrong about elias pettersson being a real prospect though. he adjusted to the ahl a lot faster than i expected and i could see him being a guy who has a long career if he can play a simple, reliable game because of his physical play and his size. i'm still hopeful for kudryavtsev but his usage in abbotsford has been confusing. i am not really sure where his game ends up now

mynio is still the most intriguing prospect in the system for me. i want to see him against real competition (his usage in the wjc was frustrating because this was the first real opportunity for that) but i like his skill set and his athleticism

Every time I see Mueller play I am impressed. Good skater, good motor. Admittedly I don’t watch the Abbotsford much.

On Romani, he has a very significant surgery, and was out a long time, so we will need to be patient with him.

Mueller is headed to the AHL all-star game as Abbotsford's representative. So obviously somebody agrees with your assessment.

I would have thought that you'd have seen a guy like Raty or Sasson picked to go. But for a rookie, Mueller is having a fine first season in the AHL.
