Oh My God. I just made the mistake of reading nearly 3 pages of the drivel that is this thread. Painful. Maybe 2 maybe 3 posts about prospects in the Canucks organization.
Exactly, but stupid us, maybe we should go to the model versus scouting thread to get any up dates on our prospects eh?

I developed a model of my own. Can't give you specifics cuz proprietary reasons, but the conclusion is that this thread has been sucking for a few pages now. Would be one thing if this wasn't the tenth time the same argument has been had, but at this point let's keep the models super and get back to our model prospect and development program.

6th round pick Parker Alcos had a goal and two assists (+5!) in a 7-3 Edmonton win tonight. He's starting to put up some points after a slow start.

(6'3", 178, rhd)
Had to double take the last game or the one before where he had 2 assists and was the 2nd star. Still probably nothing, but it's better than nothing. No idea how his ice time is doing.

Alcos is listed 2nd pair right side behind draft eligible Blake Fiddler. Fiddler will most likely be a 1st round pick.

What's the deal with Riley Patterson? I was impressed with his skating at the young stars tourney, he's tied for the Colts' team lead in goals, and they're 1st in the division and 4th overall in the OHL standings. Anybody seen him play?

People discussed him earlier this year after watching him play a few games. Lots of skills but lazy. Invisible until the puck finds him in a scoring area and he's on the scoresheet seems to be the unanimous report on him.

Imagine working at an investment bank and your model tells a client they should acquire some shit company, but when they ask for details on how specific balance sheet items are impacting your valuation you just say that’s subjective and don’t elaborate.
I usually dislike most of the analogies used on HF but this is a good one

The Hitmen are first in the conference (by points %). I've no idea about their personnel on the back end or what role Mynio could be expected to play. But a long playoff run certainly seems plausible.
Looks as if they have a rookie playing with Yamechuk currently on the top pair.

I mean, hey, if they're willing to trade that much for him it certainly speaks pretty well to how he's perceived. Gotta imagine he'll get lots of opportunity.

To end this whole model versus traditional scouting thing, I wonder which did a better job. Hockey's Future scouting reports from back before this place was just a forum or statistical models of a similar vintage?
The HF reports and rankings were kind of plainly dumb, though. A lot of them were just like the 2006 version of me writing a prospect breakdown and grading on, say, Minnesota's prospects often based - at best - on like some articles I'd read about people who had actually seen the player play a couple times or some youtube highlights. It wasn't "traditional scouting" at all.

I'd rather watch reduced ice time Hitman Mynio than Seattle Mynio. watching Seattle has dbeen miserable
Careful, you're going to summon that f***ign dweeb from the GDT again

It was really bad. Even when they had some in-person scouting, the take-away were either already known factors or just plain wrong.

Also that the prospect rankings were just some guy individually deciding them on a team by team basis such that in July 2012 Kevin Connauton - coming off an okay second pro season - was a 7.0C and Roman Josi - coming off of making the NHL and playing every NSH playoff game - was a 7.0B. In the same way that many on this board would be eager to anoint some 5'2", 125lb kid with a crippling porn addiction as a blue chip prospect because he scored PPG in the turkish third division, as there's a lack of greater context in the judgement.

It was very "early web" (obviously not that the current internet doesn't have its own reliability problems), in that the novelty of the existence of the information outweighed any consideration toward the usefulness of the information.

While nobody has done a systematic analysis, much of the old site is still available through the Internet Archive.

Here’s a “little bit of Jannik Hansen”:

Talent Analysis
The main aspect of Hansen’s game is his speed and above average skating, as most defenders tend to back off at the line due to their respect for his speed. Fellow draftee and member of Canada’s Under 18 team Wes O’Neill was victimized many times by Hansen in their head to head match up. A strong wrist shot and creativity with the puck are another two skills that show the potential in Hansen’s offensive game for the future. Hansen is also known for not backing down from opponents when the game gets physical and how that will translate against tougher competition will be seen.
