The end of an era. Still can’t help but hold out some hope he comes back.

But if not, thank you so much Brad. For all the memories. All that has played through my head has been the memories of the 2011 series against the canucks. Particularly that absolute snipe he had on Luongo on his off wing in the series. But that doesn’t even scratch the surface of his legacy.

Best wishes to you and your family Brad.

Come back sooner than later!

I wish him the best. There is so much to say. Nobody expected him to have the career he's had. From working his way through Prov. Starting off on the Merlot line, to the player hes become is incredible. He's defied expectations. He was a Bruin through and through. I'm just sad.

And after Sweeney's comments, my hope that he would return in the off-season is dashed. And that hurts.

Thank you for giving my niece a puck in 2019. Her first ever hockey game with me. She's now 17 and a junior in high school. She still talks about this moment. She has the puck in a display case in her room.

Marchands's kindness off the ice, his generosity, his relentless style of hockey on the ice will never be questioned.

Thank you for the Cup. Thank you for embracing the city of Boston and what it means to play and represent this city and franchise.

I hope you wear the sweater again. But if this year was it? Thank you.

From the days of Mar-shan, to Mar-chan, to nose faced killa, to the rat, and everything in between.

Thank you, Marchy!
😭🥲❤️

Amazing Bruin and I'll be there for 63 retirement night.

I don't know what he does with Florida this year but pretty sure he'll go play with McKinnon or McDavid and end his career that way good for him.

Thanks for taking the huge discount to resign 6 years back or whatever. Glad you wore the C.

Legend but it was time for both parties.

I hope he comes back too, but I just don't see a path for that given Sweeney's comments about there being a gap.

Honestly, shame on Don for not maybe overpaying a bit either in terms of AAV or years, and let him finish here. Cap going up, and he's taken well below market value his whole career.

Maybe unfair to dump this much sentiment onto his trade, but it's not one player, it's an entire era that's leaving us.

I was in college and into my young adult life when that Bruins team emerged from the cellar and began to be a real powerhouse from 2009 onward. Bruins were just fun, and Marchand and his antics became a major part of that. No matter how many times he crossed the line, I always defended him out of fan tribalism. But he matured, and flourished into a pretty elite winger in the second half of the Bruins' run.

That era was just so fun - Lucic, Thornton, Horton, Recchi, Chara, Krejci, Bergy, Seidenberg, Thomas, Rask, Krug, etc. And Marchand was the last one standing, so it closes the book on that era and there's a sadness there. Like closing the book on my youth at the same time.

It was time though. Sweeney did the right thing. You have to rip the band-aid off to move on at some point and start a new era.

Huge Marchand fan, so many great memories for the future HOF. Still holding out hope that he returns to the Bruins in the summer to close the chapter in his tremendous career.

P.S. Please knock the Leafs out of the playoffs once again, that never gets old.

Like seriously Don, what are we doing here?

Just f***ing pay him you dolt.

Marchand will be fine he'll chase a Cup in Florida and then sign with Colorado or Edmonton.

It was a great run and noone can take away his all time Bruins stats he's 4th for goals ffs of anyone that's ever played for us.

We were never extending him or finding common ground which is ok. It's a business and he's old and nearing the end.

Hell of a run and glad he was able to captain us.

Coyle and Carlo and Freddy on the other hand should feel shame for being total ass this year F them good riddance.

Brad Marchand has been the quintessential Bruin of all time. His toughness rivals guys like Stan Jonathan and Eddie Shore (one tough SOB).
I'm going to miss Brad and his hijinks. He's an honest, hardworking gem of a player the likes of which we may not see in a Spoked B for many years if ever. Best of luck to him, and whether we get a first or second, here's hoping that he ends up coming back to
Boston for his final hurrah! If not, I'm going seriously miss him and his desire to win every time he touches the ice.

The bolded is just flat out disingenuous/incorrect. How can you say that when there was obvious interest from both sides. Sweeney not giving him the extra year or slightly more on a 2 year deal is just being a stupid GM given the money being discussed.

It's not like the Bruins were offering 2 years at 2 million a year, and the player wanted 3 years 6 mil a year or something.
