Former Bruins Thank You Brad Marchand

“These are the best few months I have ever had in my career," the 37-year-old said Friday. “It’s an incredible group down here. I’ve loved every second of it, and hopefully it can continue."

Hockey players are well trained in speaking to media but that is a bit painful. Undoubtedly untrue but will sting for Bruins fans nonetheless.

Why would you assume it's untrue? Can put some of it down to recency bias and the joy of success, sure, but I think he means it. That Panthers team suited him down to the ground in a way no Bruins group probably has since about 2014. Speaks a lot to where Florida have got it right and Boston have taken some wrong turns.

While I think I read you well and agree with most of your post, I would like to remember that most here would have thrown Sweeney under the bus if he had given Brad an 8 M deal for 3-4 years extension. Alot here thought Marchand was done.

So basically it is an easy shot at Sweeney now that Marchand played to a Conn Smythe. If you ask me, Sweeney was in a grey area, where it would have been hard getting it done on a team and fan POV. Marchand to the Panthers allowed some folks here to really understand what we had the pleasure watching him play for 15+ year in Boston. Marchand IMO was never done.. and I will fuc.... miss him
It was understand afaik that Marchand would have accepted $6.8M, not 8

I might be the only person here who thinks the trade was a win-win.

I don't think the B's signing Marchand to a 3 year deal made sense for the team. And I'm still unsure if it makes sense for any team because his body isn't likely to hold up to the game that he plays. And the B's will likely be uncompetitive for the next year or two, so having 6m or so tied up in an aging winger is not likely their best move.

Marchand becomes a key piece to the Panthers and wins another cup. B's get a 1st round pick next year. Given all of the tough contract decisions that FLA has to make, the B's may have a pick in the low '20s in next year's draft.

I am still very happy for Marchand, he had a tough start under Monty this year and his joy during the playoff run was fun to watch.

OK, when they win, they are lucky and when they lose they are chokers and are bad.
They clearly are chokers that’s not the point.

You need to beat who is in front for you they weren’t lucky they still had to win but the park was as easy as it could be.

What truly good team have the Sweeney era Bruins defeated in the playoffs in a decade?

Not the only one. I'm right there with you. Well said.

Reading here... that is my point. Most fans here were not for a 6M, 7M or 8M multiple deal. Some even thought he was closing to his end.

You are not alone. You summed it up well IMO.

Bruins and Panthers are not comparable. Brad fit(s) them well at this stage of his career and vis versa. Us not so much. Is what it is.

Has there been a better and more impactful trade deadline acquisition than Brad Marchand in the salary cap era, all for a late 1st draft choice, which is less than what teams got for Scott Laughton, Jake Walman and Brock Nelson? I get the rhetoric about why he is of no use to the rebuilding Bruins (I don't agree) and how the Panthers were pretty much the only team he could have had this much success with but I can't help but feel that Sweeney bungled this a bit, either by not cutting bait sooner where he could have realized a better return, or somehow not nickel and diming Brad for a difference of $500K to someone who wanted desperately to stay in the 11th hour.

For sure Marchand never could have performed with the Bruins like he has (and will) for the Panthers, but isn't it a GM's job to identify that and value his assets not just for his own team, but potentially for others too? It's why many deals aren't done within their own division - Marchand and Ullmark both will be enjoying their revenge tours for a while.

All that said, I'm happy for Brad and he deserves all the love he is now getting, while Sweeney has to live with the consequences of (imo) being mocked by the Panthers players and fan bases all over the league.

As I yell at the clouds some more, I am more and more annoyed by the mocking chants of "thank you Boston" that I can't avoid every time I check in on a thread, and the ragging that the Bruins are getting for this trade everywhere I turn. The Panthers are a cocky bunch and deserve all the hate they get.

Right on.

Their fans especially. They left the arena early a few playoffs ago against Toronto... in a blowout win!

After a decade of needing to be bribed to attend with free parking, tickets, and concessions. Not very long ago were Florida games a guaranteed 5-1 win and on par with a game vs the Coyotes.

Tampa fans are a knowledgeable group, Florida fans are lost in comparison. Not that their TV broadcast duo helps in that regard.

Minor correction but highly relevant. That late 1st round pick is in 2027. Bruins fans will not even know how our next Caron looks until at least 2030.

I would have valued Florida without a second Cup or Marchand the next three years higher than that.

I looking forward to hearing much much less of Marchy very soon.

I get it, he’s pumped. As well he should be.

Bit getting a bit much in the post Cup celebration videos. Kind of dicky sometimes.

Am I just cranky? Honest question, by the way. World has me cranky right now and maybe I’m off base with Marchy here.
Both things can be true. Certainly plenty to be cranky about.

I'm happy for the guy but if he resigns there I hope he gets absolutely buried every shift he sees against Boston.

Him and Seguin were actually quite obnoxious after 2011.

im younger than him by a decent amount and have no idea how hes been drinking this much for this long. i'd be crippled after one night

Im pretty sure the rumor is the team told them they had to go home after 2-3 weeks.

If your mother was a college kid in Boston during June/July of 2011, Brad Marchand or Tyler Seguin may be your father.

Brad Marchand at that time was in a long term relationship with his current wife. Matter of fact, he was one of the ones Seguin called out as being "married" when complaining about the general domesticity of the locker room.
