TES IV: Oblivion Remaster Leak

I appreciate them not releasing this full price. Apparently they’ve added some cool stuff like lore specific player character origins

Bethesda's marketing department must've decided that it would sell better if called a "remaster" because this looks much more like a remake to me. From the videos and screenshots that I've seen, I barely recognize anything so far and it sounds like they overhauled a lot. It seems almost like a whole new game, rather than an update of a game that I played a lot of. On one hand, that's disappointing, since it may not be very nostalgic and may lack what the original had.

On the other hand, it's a little exciting if it's like a whole new Elder Scrolls game, since we've waited long enough for one. This might be a nice opportunity to get a somewhat modern ES experience while we wait for ES6. I loved System Shock Remake despite it being so radically different from the original and appreciated it as the next best thing to getting a proper SS3. I'm going to try to treat this the same way, as a remake, rather than a remaster, and try to appreciate it as the next best thing to getting a real ES game.

I’m almost through the tutorial area and yea, it’s really good. I don’t love the combat but it’s better than Oblivions original combat. Also surprised it works so well on steam deck.

It’s surreal playing Oblivion when it looks like this.

It’s about time BGS got a W.

It definitely still feels like Oblivion. Rag doll physics, the art, the UI, the music, the voices etc. But it also feels very new.

I'm hearing now that it uses the original game's code running under Unreal Engine 5, so that's probably why it feels like the original game yet looks very new. So, I guess that it's not a full remake, after all.

The developers did talk about replacing a lot of animations (because the original's didn't react to being hit) and re-recording a lot of voices (because the original re-used a lot of them and they wanted more variety and each race to sound different).

Would definitely put this in the category of "visual remake" with games like Demon's Souls and Last of Us Part 1. I am enjoying it a lot so far. Forgot how great the music in this game is, it's fun to just walk around the world listening to the amazing soundtrack.

Yea Oblivions soundtrack has always been my favourite.

The difficulty is really weird. Expert is really hard in the beginning, almost impossible if you don't have heavy armour while adept makes everything die in 1 to 3 hits.
