Terrible goaltender interference call tonight in Blues vs Nucks game!!

explanation to the coach from the refs was stl player was on his way to enter the crease, could have stopped, but just slowed before proceeding and because call on the ice was no-goal, it stuck. (insinuating a good-goal call on the ice and it would have stood?)

as a canucks fan, it's pretty greasy but i've seen worse.

StL and Vancouver fans are always complaining about something. Excellent defense there by mini me Hughes

oh yea? 'bout what?

Goalie interference calls might be the most inconsistent calls in all NHL.

But for once, I have to say I have no issue with this call. Sure, the Blues players got pushed, but nobody forced him to skate right through the blue paint in the first place. There's no way you can conclude that without the push, he would have avoided interfering the goalie completely.

Agreed. Correct call was made.

That’s basically it. Attackers aren’t entitled to a free pass to the front of the net. If a defender has body position and it forces you into the crease, too bad, turn around or try to avoid the goalie the best you can.

Now this one in particular is pretty close because Hughes is giving him some shoves toward the net but I don’t think the refs view that he skated himself into there is unreasonable.

I think what seals it is even when Hughes is pushing him toward the net he’s not really pushing him into Lankinen. There’s no contact initially and Holloway has plenty of time to get out of there, but he decided to keep going through the crease (and Hughes is not pushing him in that direction) and tried to step around the goalie, which is when the interference happens.

dunno, I mean, my stance is that if the player's in the blue paint then it's goalie interference even if the defenseman shoves them onto the goalie. what could the defenseman even do in that situation, otherwise? should a player be allowed to just park on the blue paint and be untouchable? he could easily have gone elsewhere, such as behind the net, if he didn't want to interfere.

I agree with other comments, pretty easy to uphold the on-ice call. If they had of called a goal on ice though, probably decent chance it stands as well

This is a little better angle and shows Holloway outside the crease when the first cross check was applied by Hughes. The other angle shows Holloway fighting to get away from the goalie.

But his path woulda missed the goalie were it not for the interference of the opponent. If you push a dude into your own goalie, good goal. There, I just saved us so many f***in dumb arguments. Goal scoring is up, Gary is anachronistic, goddammit this league sucks.

Just get rid of challenges. They aren't making the game better. Instead of only having a goal disallowed the Blues also get a penalty for making a challenge that every coach would make.

Pretty much how they’ve been calling it all year in the games I’ve watched. Caps have had 4+ goals reversed on goaltender interference that seemed like they would have counted in years past.

I don’t really have a problem with it as long as they call it consistently.

Correct call.

Go into the crease and get played as you would outside the crease without a whistle and touch the goalie in the process and you get called for goalie interference if there's a goal scored pretty much every time. As you should.

Don't like that call. He's pushed into the goalie not once but twice, the first time with enough force to change the angle of his skates.

IIRC there was a couple bullshit calls that went the Blues way the last time they were in Vancouver so I'm not going to feel too bad for them.

sure the thing is that he is still moving towards the net and this guys has it right.

No issue with calling no-goal when a guy deliberately skates to the middle of the crease. There wasn’t nearly enough interference from the D to suggest he was trying to go around or get out.

Stay out of the crease, then calls like this magically go away.
