In 2015 Cam fired Peter Chiarelli and wound up giving the keys to Don Sweeney. Sweeney got off to a bad start with the 2015 draft but was hampered by having to wait a month to finally get the job.

The first question is should they have let Chiarelli run the 2015 draft? :dunno:

Chiarelli was an outsider who Charlie brought in and he belongs to a very exclusive club, a Bruins GM that won the Cup along with Art Ross and Milt Schmidt.

The bottom line is as bad as things seemed to be in 2015 things look far worse in 2025.

Don't buy this at all. He was already a high-ranking executive who'd been with the team for many years.

But for sure things are MUCH WORSE ten years later. The amount of talent/assets he inherited in 2015 was insane.

In the last ten years we had 2 Cups waiting for us IMO. I mean that based on the talent that has gone through here. That’s tough to swallow as it will be awhile before we see that again. I think though the only way they move on from Sweeney is if they miss the playoffs this year AND next year. I doubt they make massive changes in the FO no matter at the end of the year. Charlie Jacobs sounds like he wants Sweeney - and Neely - to run things. We shall see.

How is Sweeney on video on Behind the B telling Chia to have patience and not trade up and wait for Pasta to drop then a year later has no idea about the 2015 draft? I mean wasn't he doing the same job up until May of that year? Why trade your two most tradeable assets for picks in a draft you had no idea about? You are going to let Gretzky usher in your era with no input?

Anyways, they were always going to be worse in 2025 without Bergeron, Krejci, Chara and Rask.

If someone offered me Boston’s 2015 lineup, finances (cap related), and prospect pool straight up one for one for the 2025 version?

I’d be looking for the hidden cameras assuming it was a prank show.

Apples and orangutans in my book.

Not to rehash 2015 but I agree 100%. There is no way anyone was handcuffed in that 2015 draft. Just a brutally bad execution.

That's why you need to win when you should. It's hard to get there. 2019 was a players choke job in game 7 with an assist to Sweeney for not having anyone better than Kuhlman for RW2.

Here are my "10 year fan eras"

1977-87
87-97
97-07
07-17
17-on going

97-07 could be where we are headed

Chiarelli couldn’t pick his out fit to wear

in 2015 the Oilers had picks 16 & 33

They had McDavid and at 17 were looking at Barzal, Connor, Chabot, Konecny etc….at 33 he could have taken WHL defenseman Brandon Carlo.

Instead he trades it for one of his friends kid - Griffin Reinhart.

We have a SIM League and I inherited Reinhart. I had never seen him play but was a huge fan of his dads. I saw him play for Bridgeport the Islanders AHL team against Providence and yikes he couldn’t skate. Then @GloryDaze4877 saw Bridgeport at Springfield near where he lives and calls me and says same thing

When the deal hampered we both couldn’t believe what a horrible deal this was and is going to be

Chiarelli drafted Hamil over Couture who was the guy they were targeting and traded I believe a third round pick in same draft to pick Tommy Cross moving up three or a few picks

Chia took Hamil while Ryan McDonagh & Max Pax on the board both going to Montreal

Chia traded picks to move up a few spots to take Cross over PK Subban who also went to Montreal

Chia 2007 rounds 1&2
Hamill
Cross

Montreal 2007 rounds 1&2
McDonough
Pacioretty
Subban

All there when chia picked

2015 Chia first year In Edmonton

Griffin Reinhart

For

16 pick
33 pick

Yeh let’s let Chia pick lol

They had 3 great opportunities for a Cup I'd argue. 2019, 2020, 2023. If they had just won 1 of those 3 chances I'd be happy . Instead just exciting but disappointing
