Temp Check Rod Brindamour

I'm not calling for his firing because as @Stanky and Janky points out, we'd have to accept Jeff Daniels as coach.

That said, Rod absolutely has to change things this offseason. He has to have better coaching help. He has to accept the team isn't great at scoring goals and needs to work on better scoring options rather than passing to shoot at the goaltenders chest 50 times a night.

His presser last night, I can appreciate him calling out guys but he also in the same breath claimed Staal and Martinook were two of the best players. It's like he can't help himself. He needs to start looking at it through a who produces lense and not a "who plays the way I used to play" lense. It isn't 2006 anymore, the players aren't all Rod clones.

He also needs to not just let players get involved in greasy shit but encourage it. Florida takes runs because they know teams don't fight back. And if we allowed ourselves to get a little dirty during the season we are much better prepared mentally to fight back when teams like Florida so this to us in the playoffs.

Otherwise, the same shit is going to keep happening year after year where a team who can hit, play over the line and has talent will always have their way with us. It's an automatic embarrassing series loss when we play teams like that. Tampa, Boston, NYR, Florida. We cannot compete against those teams. We just can't with the way we are being coached to play

I think there’s a decent chance he gets the can. Not saying I agree, but in the three games we’ve played, we couldn’t do something remotely, strategically different to avoid getting blown out in EVERY SINGLE GAME? Something stinks somewhere.

I think some of this trepidation is the Rantanen drama coming home to roost. Let’s be honest here. These blockbuster, franchise changing trades that rarely come along require two important components. The sellers: superstar player(s) that have made it known that they are not re-signing. Buyers: impressive “hockey trade” package to send back. We had it in front of us, went for it, and failed. Those types of players becoming available in that scenario is quite rare, and having the players to send back (Necas or Huberdeau or whoever ) has to be there is well. Is that there anywhere this offseason? I’m afraid that was our shot.

The conference finals sweeps don't outweigh that he consistently provides tom dundon with more playoff revenue than expected. I don't think there's a chance he is gone in the next couple years unless he walks away.
Agreed - in other markets, perhaps heads would roll but not in this one. Contract payoff aspects aside, he is part of the marketing/brand identity that would have to be reworked and sold to the buying public. The love is part of the equation. Unless the wheels come completely off, they will milk it until dry.

The org has their finger on the pulse and personality of its fans and their tolerance, too. Passionate base but also still somewhat passive as a whole in contrast to what even the college sports market here demands. While the playoffs and the Rantanen rejection may cause a bit of bumpiness within the hardcore base, they win enough such that it’s still a fun something to do for casuals and corporates.

15 playoff home games over the last 3 years and even with 35% given to the League, it justifies why TD has spent to the Cap this year.

In addition, TD now has the Lenovo renovation project approved which should provide a significant Enterprise Value boost/return to his ownership stake.

Hopefully (risk factor), he continues to spend to the cap versus concluding, I got what I needed and now can back off the annual spend.
