I bet the Flyers are waiting on their coaching search to see if the Canes flame out in the 2nd round and Tom Dundon does something stupid.

There are plenty of valid frustrations and criticims of Rod. He's a great coach but he's not perfect. But he's clearly top tier at what he does, has a tie to the franchise that may never be recreated, and has brought us a level of sustained success that we never could have imagined over the first like 20 years of the franchise. Anybody that actually would want to move on from him (I don't think there are many, but there are some) or those that don't fully appreciate how many positive aspects he's brought to this franchise and our fandom, is flat out dumb and ungrateful. You're far more likely to end up better than worse moving on from Rod, especially given Dundon would probably immediately go back to the any yokel could cheaply fill this job philosophy.

I tend to now believe we should just pick a coach and then stick with him. I think the way some teams cycle through coaches is toxic to the franchise as a whole. We're also unique in that the way we play hockey is derived so much from how Rod played. He also has such a massive symbolic presence for this franchise.
He's not perfect, but I don't care. I don't ever want to replace him until Rod wants to leave. Even if his matchups or decisions directly cause us to lose a playoff series, I don't think we'll have it better with another coach, and I don't want to "the grass is greener" the situation.
Plus, I can guarantee that if Rod was fired today, 15 NHL teams would immediately pick up the phone. Many of which would can their coach today if it meant them getting Brind'Amour. Heck, he could even lead the historic Boston Bruins!

Canes have an organizational approach that really favors coaching stability. I’m a big advocate of finding the right guy and sticking with him long term regardless of the ups and downs. That’s much easier to accomplish in an organization that’s seriously committed to a systematic approach, where the players are evaluated for “fit” and buy-in, rather than chasing tomorrow’s news cycle and next month’s ticket sales.

It's probably also easier for the players to know that they're only going to have one coach for the foreseeable future. Those that like the coach/system will be more likely to stick around, those that have issues with either make the easy call to move on.
I wonder how Pretzel is feeling about the Tampa rumors (Plus, the early exit too)?

Notable example: as mad as we are about how Rantanen left, imagine if he had signed that contract.
It helps to have a clear identity that people are either aligned with or not.

I encounter this a lot on Reddit and places other than here where people criticize Brind’Amour, say he should be on the hot seat etc. and I respond with something like “don’t you remember 2010-2018?” And am met with “not really, I’m 15”

There should be a boot camp for fans like this, where they’re tied to a chair and forced to watch footage of Kirk Muller coaching.

I always wonder what Jeff Skinner would have been if he'd come into the league with Rod as Head Coach.
Scoring 4 points and being a +/- of 0 in a 7-4 loss is the kind of thing I think certain types of players want to do that they don't get the chance to very often in a Brindamour coached team.

I guess I take for granted the fact that as a thirty year old I literally grew up with this organization.
On the flip side, i’m a diehard Manchester United fan, and as a kid I saw it as my due diligence to learn the major history of the club as well as really familiarizing myself with the recent and relevant past couple of decades from before I started supporting them. Easy to forget that such a large percentage of any given fans base are no where near as insanely in the weeds about this stuff as us message board dorks.

I still remember a game Muller coached against the Jets. There were two very attractive young ladies behind the bench that were wearing extremely low cut Winnipeg shirts, but whenever the camera would cut to the Canes bench, Muller would be standing in front of these lovely young ladies.

Given the current owner's incompetence, young people today have only seen mediocrity & probably don't recognize the full legacy of great Man U soccer.
I had an opportunity to go to Old Trafford in Ferguson's last year and although it's an old stadium in need of repair/replacement the soccer played that day was great.

I mean if Tampa decides they want to go to a rebuild, I would absolutely kick the tires on it. Guentzel isn't exactly at the point in his career to go through a rebuild, and we should have enough futures to be intriguing to a team looking to do it
Sunk cost is what it is, but giving up 2 Guentzel trades worth of assets for Guentzel would be quite the story.
