Run of the mill 4C. I wouldn’t mind if he stayed but didn’t care that he left.

Of his 2 years here, I really liked him in his role for the first 1.5 seasons. I’m not sure if he was worn down or hurt after that.

Average 4C whose average at everything. Can PK. Seems like a good dude.

Hope he works out for you guys.

He's a good teammate, Pker, 4th line C that can hit the wing if need be.
Just a depth player really but he can chip in from time to time then get cold offensively but he's atleast defensively reliable.

Should have been in Hartford. He was on the Devils due to lack of depth. He is an AHL player at this point. Rather have a young future 4th liner like Barron in his spot when Rooney was signed. He is not that good.

Rooney (and Carpenter was mentioned) are both useless wastes of roster contract slots.

That sums them up.

I would have signed Brian Boyle back as a 4th line option even at his age is a better player than both.

Had a much better season or two before the last. He got injured and had a pretty shitty playoffs to be honest. Didnt look like himself. Even before that he was just ok.

If he can return to form however, he was a nice 4th line center. He was strong on the forecheck and along with walls, was serviceable on draws (and thats saying something for any Ranger) but most importantly he would get shots on and get some dirty goals from time to time. I really liked his game but he fell off quite a bit last year

Pretty much this. He was a serviceable 4th liner before last year. Something happened last year where his play just fell off a f***ing cliff.

He's a good guy, the players like him, but he is waiver fodder if he can't get back to where he was.

My biggest issues with Rooney is that he is not a prototypical 4th liner playing a 4th line role.

He has decent size, decent wheels, and sometimes shows some offensive prowess for a 4th liner. But for a 4th liner, I had a hard time trusting him this season. He struggled getting pucks out of the zone under pressure. He seems to lose sight of the puck and while he positions himself just fine on the PK, he just doesn't react quick enough to actually intercept passes and properly pressure opponents. In years prior, he was better along the walls, but this year I thought that part of his game wasn't as effective. He kinda reminds me of a guy who would be a top 6 AHL player who doesn't process the game well enough to be in an offensive role in the NHL -- but he also doesn't possess elite defensive forward skills either. That's why, at best, he should be a 13th forward on a legit playoff roster.

A Borderline 4th liner that is best used as a guy who is an extra skater that can fill in for an injury for an extended time, but his limited talent exposes his lack luster ability. Efforts can be decent when he has motivation. He is halfway decent at faceoffs and can kill penalties if he is playing a collapsing zone and doesn't have to move around a lot because his foot speed isn't all that great.

Offical Baby Punisher rating: Plug

I didnt mind him his first year hear, he's gritty and plays hard. I think his biggest downfall here was that he isn't good enough to carry a line and thats kinda what was being asked of him with Reaves on his line. But if you are looking for a guy who hits when he can, sticks up for his linemates and can pk, he's your guy. But the fact you are asking about him on another teams forum might suggest you are hoping for more than that.

Flames fan here. Treliving went and signed him quickly when free agency started and Rooney mentioned in an interview that he was offered a contract by the Flames a couple of years ago, but chose to sign with New York. The amount the Flames are paying him seems like an overpayment for 4th liner. It's not a gross contract, but seems a little high (2 years, $1.3 million per).

I honestly know nothing about this player, so there is a good chance that I am not appreciating the signing like I should. So what's the scoop on this guy? Is he like one of those crazy hard working players you sign just for intangibles, or something? Give me anything!
Why would you want to ruin your day like that? Try to pretend he doesn't play for you and you'll be happier.
