The Colorado Avalanche are moving on to the Second Round after beating the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 in Game 5, completing the gentleman's sweep in dominant fashion. The Avs are the first team in playoff history to score 5+ goals in a five game series, and they did it to the top defensive team in the NHL and the eventual Vezina winning goalie. 15 different players had a point in this series, Georgiev significantly outduels Hellebuyck to make us look stupid, and your best players were the best when it mattered most. Now, we wait for the Avalanche's second round opponent as the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights war it out, but in the meantime, let's realize just how special this team is.

The Avalanche finally have their second round playoff opponent, and it's none other than the Dallas Stars at last. This matchup has been a long time coming, and it's hard to find a closer series between two teams at the height of their power with so many storylines. With Dallas needing seven games against Vegas, how much impact will the week of rest have the for the Avalanche? Where do the advantages lie for the Avalanche in this series, and what weakness can they exploit in Dallas's game? What should they improve upon to ensure the Stars can't exploit their weaknesses?

The Avalanche are never out of a game, and they did it again to the Dallas Stars in Game 1 of the Second Round, coming back from 3-0 down in the first period for a 4-3 overtime win to take a 1-0 series lead. Miles Wood is the overtime hero on a breakaway like we called all season long, and the Avs best players did what they had to drag them back into the game with huge nights from MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Makar. How does this comeback set the tone for the rest of the series, and what can be improved to build on this series lead?

The Avalanche lose Game 2 5-3 to the Dallas Stars, almost pulling off a comeback after being down 4-0 in the third period but falling short due to a bad 40 minutes beforehand. With everything that went against the Avs in this game from the ice, officiating, bad bounces, hot goalie, and bad start, being able to drag this game to an almost comeback is still something to build off of for Game 3. However, there are a LOT of mistakes to clean up to prevent the game from getting out of hand in the first place. Georgiev was not one of the problems, and there needs to be much more help in front of him. Finally, looking around at the second round of the playoffs.

The Avalanche fall short in Game 3 with a 4-1 loss to the Stars, and fall behind 2-1 in the series. It was a brutally frustrating and boring game to watch, and the stats may tell you the Avs deserved to win this game, but did they really? Lot of sloppy mistakes, missed opportunities, failed scoring chances, and overall out of sync play cost them big, and a really sloppy third period plus a bad powerplay took away any chance of a win. The Stars have the edge in the series now, and the Avalanche are going to have to adjust their game to turn it around and win this series, which they are capable of doing.

The Avalanche lose Game 4 by a final of 5-1 to the Dallas Stars and are pushed to the brink of elimination going into Game 5. Val Nichushkin was placed into the player assistance program and suspended for six months right before the game, and we wish him nothing but health and peace from what's been a horrible battle. Devon Toews missed the game with an illness at the last moment, leaving the Avs without two important pieces on both sides of the puck. The game itself was awful, flat and lifeless with pure domination from the Stars which now leaves staring down elimination in Game 5. But until you lose four times, a series is not over, and this series is not over.

The Avalanche are still standing and force a Game 6 in Colorado with a 5-3 win over the Dallas Stars in Game 5, finally having their most complete game of the series with big performances from Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon to put some doubt into the Stars. This effort looked largely repeatable and can even be improved upon by cleaning up some big mistakes that ended up in the back of the net. The Avs looked great, but this win is only a third of the way there to completing this comeback, so what needs to happen in Game 6 to force a Game 7 back in Dallas?

The season is over, as the Avalanche lose 2-1 in double overtime to the Stars in Game 6, ending a promising season in disappointment and leaving a lot of questions going into the offseason. Game 6 itself was a solid game that fell apart in overtime despite Georgiev's outstanding performance, but this series was lost long before it got to this point. Disappointment aside, the Avalanche will be back again next year and several years down the line. This one hurts though.

Let's take a look back at the season that was for the Colorado Avalanche, and all of it's up and down moments as the offseason gets underway. Ultimately the season ends earlier than anybody wanted, but when you look at the season as a whole, how stacked the Stars are, and the overall future of this team, are thing even that bad at all? How did the offseason moves ultimately work out? What about the trade deadline? What ultimately worked and didn't work during the regular season and playoffs?

Gabe Landeskog is not retiring and is still looking to return next season, but there's still very little clarity as to when. So what exactly do MacFarland and the Avalanche do in the meantime with the salary cap space? Additionally, not much clarity on the Nichushkin with situation leaves very few options other than possibly coming back. Is there still a path forward? With still so little cleared up as we head into the offseason, how do they navigate bringing back Jonathan Drouin and making sure they do the best they can to do right by MacKinnon and Makar in their primes?

The 2024 draft is in the books, and the Avalanche made a total of nine selections after trading out of the first round and stockpiling picks. They also took the first goalie of the draft, Ilya Nabokov with their first pick, and two additional goalies later in the draft. Will Ilya Nabokov develop into the star goalie that the Avalanche haven't been able to develop so far in their history? Will the quantity over quality approach to this draft pay off in the long run? Also time is running out on potential moves with Ross Colton and re-signing Jonathan Droun before July 1st.

Jonathan Drouin is back! It came down to the wire on Day 1 of Free Agency, but a one year deal will keep Drouin in Colorado at a team friendly price. The Avs also added Calvin De Haan to bolster the defense, Parker Kelly to add to the fourth line, and finished it off with Joel Kiviranta coming back on a one year deal. However with still no clear answers on Landeskog and Nichushkin, is there room for any more moves to come with the roster still incomplete? Finally, answering your mailbag questions!

Cal Ritchie is officially an Av after signing his entry level contract, and will get a fair shot to make the team out of camp next season. Is it realistic to expect Ritchie to be a significant contributor next season, or is it better for his development to get his nine game tryout and go back to the OHL?
