Revisionist history. Purcell was signed way back in July for offensive depth before we knew what we had anywhere else. He was a guy who had reached 60 points before and has annually been good for near 40 if not more.

Seto didn't make an appearance until camp in September and was far from a sure thing after being completely out of the NHL and overseas.

None of the AHL players earned a spot last year and none of them impressed at camp at all, minus Kempe in flashes.

Can you imagine if we started the year with MERSCH penciled in on a scoring line? With the amount of lashing a guy like Shore gets on the 4th? Or Kempe, who is 11th in scoring on an AHL team?

No, back in July, DL really didn't have a lot of other options with all the uncertainty coming up ahead as well as with the salary cap.

It was a low risk signing that didn't pan out because other other options surpassed him. That's a GOOD thing, because otherwise we may not have seen Setoguchi emerge along with Dowd, Andreoff, Brown's resurgence, etc...making Purcell redundant is a good thing, not a bad signing.

also with latta troutman purcell gilbert and setogushi all playing was enough time given to rookies in order for them to impress I would say no what about u honestly was there enough mins given to the rookies who had a chance

Btw dowd forbort gravel all impressed enough to make it Just saying

I disagree i would have loved to have Mersch penciled in on a scoring line. Unlike most king fans I believe in our scouts and coaches to develop players. Dean and or Futa has said Mersch has done all he can do in the ahl and is ready to show what he can / can't do in the nhl. Signing guys like purcell seto and gilbert are just blocking our younger cheaper players. If nothing else i would think he would upgrade our pp After all he did score one in preseason one more then most of the kings i may add. I think kempe would do better in the nhl then ahl He is used to playing against older more experienced players it brings out the best in him We need to start having some faith in our ahl players You would think after how many we have home grown lately we would trust in the system I guess its engrained in king fans not to trust the farm team after so many years of it sucking but i hope at some point we as fans will

This is why I am thankful you are not GM. Mersch wouldn't even have as many goals as Kopitar right now, let alone Dwight King... :dumbo:

Mersch is struggling to score goals in the AHL currently, Kempe and Mersch are on pretty bad goalless streaks right now.

Hopefully one of them, or both, breaks out of it soon.

I think Mersch would be fine as a PP specialist in the NHL. But teams need you too skate a regular shift.

Maybe Mersch could be a 4th line/PP guy.

Ive said Purcell was finished as an NHL player since his signing.

Good to waive him, he is not an NHL player. Hopefully he realizes that, and retires, or provides valuable leadership to an AHL team.

so if hes struggling there he would fit right in here. Even you admit (i think your saying it anyways) that he would help our pp for that reason alone id like to see him up here. However i will probably not get my wish but its fine as he will probably get a shot next year at replacing king.

As bad as people want it, King is most likely not going anywhere, till he prices himself out of LA in UFA.

One person to not sleep on, that is thoroughly out playing everyone down on the farm, is Jonny Brodzinski.

Brodzinski has a legit wrist shot, that is pretty darn accurate.

I would be fine with that as well. I just think we need to trust in our farm team more. Its so much cheaper to replace players in house then go ufa or trades Lets not forget we need cap space to resign toffoli pearson etc Cheap ahl players make that possible

I hope Purcell makes it through waivers to Ontario & works on his game until he's needed for the playoffs..... Hopefully, he can find his game & get on a hot streak when the time is right for late season reinforcements.....

i hope he gets claimed and 21/15/71/74/13 get that this is the team and they play facing the same fate to not make room for 39/49 who aren't ready for the new blood infusions of 12' & 14'

What if King takes a home town discount around 2.5-3M to stay and doesn't price himself off the team?

I just couldn't resist. ;)

Brodzinski is now tied for the lead in points on the Reign. He is having a great start to the season.

Kempe/Mersch are stuck in ugly goal droughts. Mersch has one goal in his last 13 games, but 8 assists to help. Kempe is scoreless in his last 7 games.

I hope Purcell gets picked up, but at that salary, I doubt it.

I guess everyone knew that this was a useless signing, but I have to admit that I didn't see the waivers coming.

Give mersch 16-18 mins a game and i would put money on him out scoring King He would also be cheaper than King. MOD

I'm guessing we all would think 24 games into a season that Toffoli and Pearson would have more goals and points at 5v5 than King too, but, here we are. Well, Pearson is still ahead of King by 1 goal.

Pearson has 3G, 2A, 5Pts, and 21 shots in his last 18 games, and Toffoli has 4G, 5A, 9pts, and 58 shots. In those same 18 games, King has 5G, 3A, 8pts, and 31 shots. Dowd, Lewis, and Brown are also outscoring Pearson in those games, while Clifford and Setoguchi are tied with him in points, but no reason for a pile on. Pearson plays on the awful PP, and has 1pt in those 18 games. Toffoli, 2pts. King doesn't play on the awful PP, and has 0 PP points. Kopitar has gone his last 13 games without a goal. King went 12 games without a goal to start the year.

Let's keep harping on King though. The role player that is outproducing the stars. Because a guy with fewer goals in the AHL this year than Andrew Crescenzi is the answer. Well maybe he is for Pearson.

Purcell/Gilbert signings just made no sense. 2 players that do not and have never played the Sutter style of hockey. That doesn't mean you have to go around punching guys in the face but you better have some desperation to your game or you're done.
