Other than the obvious (tickets for every game being on sale), what would be the guideline to determine a STH is buying their tickets for profit. I've known STHs that go to 12-15 games and sell the rest. Basically paying for the tickets for the year. Do they lose them?

Depends on the ratio other season ticket holders are selling. If there is a season ticket holder that will go to all the games, then they should get the tickets.

The only interest teams have after they sell these tickets the first time is getting a piece of the secondary market resale fees. That's what they setup those 'partner' websites with Ticketmaster.

Why is it dumb?!?! The teams don't make any money in the secondary market, they should let the true fans of the team get the savings.

This happened months ago but I would think it will become increasingly popular with teams that have waiting lists.

Nothing to do with supply and demand in terms of the Sabres. They don't make any money off the profit from the scalper. Supply and demand would be them raising the price so they can make more money.

Thats just foolishness. An arbitrary restriction on ticket resales for STH? good luck with that

I thought he Sabres were all about the fan?!?! Shouldn't they care that the STH are true Sabres fans, not the ones looking to make money off the tickets?!?!

Don't like it, then cancel your tickets. There are people waiting in line for those tickets. Right now that customer has no leverage.

I used to live in Buffalo and I went to every game. Now I live out of town and I go to about 5 and sell the rest. Many of those sold go to friends and family but many go on stub hub for a profit. I hold on to my tickets because it's an economical way to go to a handful of games, family and friends get access to my tickets, and I want to be able to get playoff tickets. Also, I hope to move back to Buffalo someday and use them all again. Does that mean I'm not a "true" Sabres fan?

Also, when I bought my season tickets coming out of the last lockout in 2005, the whole damn arena was available. Maybe if you were a true "fan" you would have bought tickets then to support the team when they needed it the most. :naughty:

I had tickets for 20 years going back to the Aud. Cancelled them two years ago because it was tough to get to all the games.

I split my tickets with my dad and brother as well as sell games at face value to friends and family. So I don't sell my tickets for profit.

But the idea that some percentage of games attended determines whether or not you keep your tickets seems pretty daft.


You don't make ticket policy when things are going good. Because many of STH that may get punished are folks that have stuck with the franchise for years. Now they are trying to gain back some of the tens of thousands of dollars they've spent over the years. This waiting list is a recent thing. A good chunk of the STH have been around for decades.


I think you're a tad too blinded by your bitterness to see the situation is more nuanced. Its not quite as simplistic as trying to weed the non-fans from the real ones. Which shouldn't even be brought into it.

You made a decision based on your situation a few years ago to give up your tickets. Its seems like you're now regretting the decision and want them back. How is that the fault of folks who found creative solutions to keep their tickets?

I make just enough to be able to pay for gas/hotel to come to 5 games. If I didn't sell them I would not be able to afford to go to games anymore. Are you saying I should not be able to go to games? Now who is keeping the true Sabres fans out of the arena??? :laugh:
 
The STHers who sell their tickets are still generally doing so for less than box office most of the time (with some obvious exceptions), so I don't see what the issue is.

At some point you have to say "You might be a bigger fan, but tough. Wait your turn to get in."

Ok, I wonder if they have to ship it. I might ask to get a one-time coupon instead because Ill be in Buffalo on the 29th for the game against the leafs. I still want to try one on as I am unsure of the proper size and want to avoid shipping costs. Hopefully they would be willing to do that, but if not Ill just have to order one and pay the extra
 
As soon as the argument turns to "well a true fan" blah blah. You've lost the argument. Again, just a dumb idea obviously. Setting benchmarks to reach, and if a STH doesn't reach these benchmarks.... Strip 'em of the tickets. Because (sniffle sniffle) you're not a true fan. Get over the "deserve" mentality. Try on the "earn" mentality. It's more honorable.

Not even on the waiting list but I know some people that are huge fans and would enjoy going to the games.

Get a mini pack then. Give the tickets to a family that will go to all 41.

It's really not about being a true fan, its being a considerate fan. Have a little sense that there is a waiting list of people that would love to receive the benefit. I thought being a fan was like a union, all there for the same thing.

I would say it 75% or more of your tickets are on Stubhub, then your membership should not be available to you next year. Same thing for the people that are out scalping every game. Get a detective every game to write down the seats that these guys are selling.

The Cubs opened up a can of worms that I see a lot of other teams looking into.
