Teams that are closer to each other than Montréal and québec, yet there's absolutely nothing going on.

Toronto and Montreal. Toronto media believes theres a rivalry but theres not

I agree. If anything, it's way more about the competition between the 2 cities/provinces (as with everything) than whatever happens on the ice. But yeah when you compare it to Boston, Toronto is nothing nowadays.

That would probably change if we could face them in the playoffs. Last time was in 1979.

I also agree. It should/could be one of the bigger rivalries in the NHL but right now there isn't really much to it. Not much hate from Montreal fans just mostly annoyance in some cases and a source of amusement in other cases.

Isles Devils. There should be a major rivalry but there's none at all. I wonder if this is because the Isles haven't been very good in the last 10 years or there's just no hatred between them

Calgary and Edmonton.

There is no rivalry at all. The Oilers look so apathetic when they play the Flames.

There hasn't been a real rivalry for a long time but the media still thinks there should be one.

The problem with this is that it depends on how you classify a rivalry.

There is absolutely 100% a fan rivalry. Lots of Edmontonians despise Calgarians for example, and thus Oilers fans hate Flames fans and vice versa.

On the ice the rivalry isn't really there, currently. That probably is more due to the Oilers being apathetic against everyone rather than against the Flames in specific. Give us both good teams at the same time, and there will be some good on-ice battles.

Well I find that I get along just so great with Flyers fans because we agree on something very essential: neither of us can stand the sight of Pittsburgh.

I think there's an agreement here on the team playing in Manhattan.

Hate you too!

Love, Pens fans

I have more ill will towards the Bruins than the Pens do.

I've always felt Winnipeg and Minnesota should be bitter rivals, even back in the days of the original Jets and the North Stars.

I think we're getting there. Wild need a rivalry - we still don't have much of an identity. Wild-Avs could get there (Bruno and Nino!) but not yet. Chicago's another natural choice but Chicago is so established and is so good... I don't think we can be a rivalry until we beat them a few times in the playoffs. Nobody's circling the Wild on their calendars...

Rangers and Flyers probably.

The Rangers have kicked the **** out of Philly since they stopped us from getting into the playoffs in 2010.

Even if they were rivals, I wouldn't hate Philly, I like too many of their players.

New realignment killed the Chicago-Detroit rivalry.

Outside of the 1950's decade there never was one. I wasn't around for then but that is the only time period both teams did well enough for it to happen. It is normally (in other sports mainly) a geographic rivalry due to proximity. But both teams sucked for 30+ years. Det rose up first out of the cellar from the Norris Division days. But when Chi started to get good again Det was declining out of contender status.

Both teams were good enough in the 50's to actually meet consistently in the playoffs. Era didn't hurt either given 6 teams and all.

But look even at when the Hawks rose up contender status in the past 15 years both teams have only meet each other twice in the playoffs in that time period. The reason that a "rivalry" has been construed between the teams is that in almost all other sports there are rivalries between various teams between both cities. Rivalries are built upon playoff series + hate + discontent + geographic proximity. Only having 1 of the 4 doesn't mean there is a rivalry.

This topic screams Rangers/Caps. They seem to face each other every year in a long series, yet the matchup is truly nothing more than an eye rolling nuisance. I think both Rangers and Caps fans will agree.
The thought of playing the caps again makes me want to vomit, and that's with the Rangers having the Caps number in recent years.

Truth right there, I can't think of a playoff matchup that would be less exciting than another damn series against the Rangers

I don't know how Caps fans feel, but playing Washington has always been just another game and the regular season matchups are always tepid and uneventful.

Flyers won the season series in 2010-11 so really only since the 2011-2012 season

I think Minnesota considered the Canucks a very big rival to them for a long time, but I never felt it myself. I suppose Colorado too. Both teams haven't really been in the path of my Canucks for a solid chunk of time. (And Re-allignment isn't helping that)

Give it time.

A good nasty playoff series or two should spark it up real nice.

Winnipeg is kind of like that kid in high school everyone knows exist, but are indifferent to. No one really likes or hates them outside of the city they play in. (like in this case)

Though i imagine Chicago fans aren't too fond of the Jets at this point, as the Jets seem to rob the Hawks of wins every time they play now.

If the Oilers won't even defend scrivens when getzlaf levels him and skaters on the ice awkwardly look away pretending they didn't see it id almost be scared to see scrum probably be as most one sided as can get

Not divisional rivals but those three years of playoff series against the Hawks were some of my favourite moments as a fan.

I'm seriously going to miss the clash of skill b/w the 2009-2011 Canucks and Hawks squads. **** Gillis.

I'd love for a Jets-Hawks rivalry to really flare up. Robbing Chicago feels so good, yet they're still one of the best teams in the league. We're... working on it. If we end up with a playoff run against them, I can see it happening. Winnipeg-Chicago is an easy flight too.
