Teams That Probably Should Have Rivalries But Don't

For the Bruins, it's the Senators. They've played in the same division since 1993, Boston has signed or traded for a lot of Ottawa players since they got Chiarelli from the Senators, and you'd think that something would have erupted between a player like Chris Neil and some of the tougher Bruins over the years, but nothing really has. The only key ingredient they're missing is a playoff series, which, although important, isn't a necessity for a rivalry.

Even on these boards, there doesn't seem to be a lot of ill will between the two fanbases. The biggest thing I've seen is Bruins fans not being happy about Karlsson winning the Norris.

For Lightning, it's probably the Panthers. Both in the same state, but neither have been good at the same time and they've never met in the playoffs.

This topic screams Rangers/Caps. They seem to face each other every year in a long series, yet the matchup is truly nothing more than an eye rolling nuisance. I think both Rangers and Caps fans will agree.

The thought of playing the caps again makes me want to vomit, and that's with the Rangers having the Caps number in recent years.

LA and Anaheim. 30 miles away from each other and the players are BFFs.

That's what happens when you all live in the same town for the most part. But a few more years of playoff battles they might stay that way off the ice. But will try and destroy each other on it.

Calgary and Edmonton.

There is no rivalry at all. The Oilers look so apathetic when they play the Flames.

There hasn't been a real rivalry for a long time but the media still thinks there should be one.

Interesting thread.

For the Blues I'd say the Predators. I guess it's kind of a rivalry, but it's really died down to where it was during the days when Nashville had Jordin Tootoo.

We've been in the same division for Nashville's whole existence but there's not much bad blood anymore. Most games are pretty clean, and just good tight battles. Plus it seems like a decent portion of Blues fans actually kinda like the Preds.

Detroit and Chicago. I mean I guess it's still there, but it seems wrong for 90-year rivals to be in different conferences now.

Kings/Ducks from a players' POV, but a few playoff battles will fix that right up.

From a Pens POV...it's hard to name teams that don't hate us at this point. For proximity purposes I'll say Buffalo...but we were only been in the same division for 5 years (1993-98) and have only met in the playoffs twice (Pens 2-1 in 1979 and Pens 4-3 in 2001), so geography is really the only reason they would be rivals. Kasparaitis scoring that OT series winner against Hasek was ****ing awesome, though...but the teams quickly went in opposite directions after that so any friction from that series was quickly dissipated.

I know they had some battles back in the day, but I always wished NYR and Boston were in the same division, they would be natural rivals with the Boston - NY rivalry, but I don't think they play each other enough now to really be considered true rivals.

Hawks and Wild should probably hate each other more than they do after meeting in the playoffs two straight years.

But no heat.

Lightning and Panthers. I don't hate them, if anything I pity then and hope they can Ice a good team soon. Id love top see a rivalry be born between the two of them.

I second this. They're my second and third favorite teams and their games seem pretty civil. Hard checking sure, that's how the teams play, but generally nothing worth noting.

Isles/Devils. So geographically close, been in the same division since forever yet they're just meh. Good on them for winning Cups, Marty was a great goalie, haha about Kovalchuk, but it's just not there, you know?

Well I find that I get along just so great with Flyers fans because we agree on something very essential: neither of us can stand the sight of Pittsburgh.

I think there's an agreement here on the team playing in Manhattan.

You might be a rarity though. I went to the St. Pete/Clearwater area over the Thanksgiving Weekend and purposely wore Panthers jerseys every day to see what would happen. At least fifty people yelled at me "Panthers suck!" or "Go back to the swamp!"

Nevertheless, I don't "like" the Lightning, but I do respect the hell out of them. I'm actually so happy to see you guys will be a great team for years to come. It's great for the state and non-traditional Southern markets in general within hockey. I'm really hoping the Panthers become a playoff team soon too and face the Bolts. It would be absolutely epic.
