So the players missing, for reasons other than simply not being selected, are....

Canada: Connor McDavid (due to asinine rules), Jamie Benn (injured), replaced by Logan Couture

USA: Ryan Callahan (injured), replaced by Kyle Palmieri, Johnny Gaudreau (due to asinine rules), Brandon Saad (due to asinine rules), Jack Eichel (due to asinine rules)

Russia: Slava Voynov (beat up girlfriend), replaced by Nikita Nesterov

Czech: Jaromir Jagr (declined)

Sweden: Alexander Steen (injured), replaced by Rickard Rakell

USA clearly the worst hit.

kind of surprised W.Nylander didn't get a spot on that Swedish team.

Every time I read the roster and see thorntons name there I get angrier. And I like Thornton.

What is his role on this team? Why would you pick him over a guy like Hall who is a natural winger(and one of the best in the game to boot) with great speed and game breaking ability and has also put his time in at the WHC to have another center whose best years are behind him on a team full of centers who will be playing wing as it is?

Can anyone explain why he is here and Hall is not?

Radulov and Voynov missing for Russia. So is Kovalchuk who could be extremely useful on the PP. Other than those dudes, not too bad of a selection.

They couldn't choose Radulov or Kovalchuk? Or they didn't choose to? That's a rhetorical question. It's kinda like saying the US is missing Kessel and Faulk. They didn't choose them, so they are not "missing".

I dunno Kruger, Hagglin and Silverberg could all be replaced by Willie

I don´t think he's even been considered about neither by the coacher or the fans, he has yet to prove himself in the WCH's before even being relevant for a best-on-best. He has a long way yet. I don´t think we have the same hype about juniors/young players as in NA really, both he himself and the rest here are okay to wait a few years until he is kind of complete. I haven´t thought of him at all, least to say he didn´t even make it into the WCH roster this year.

I was under the assumption that he would have been on the WCH team if the Marlies were eliminated but I am prob wrong.

Oh, now that you reminded me, that is probably true! :) Given that this years edition of the team might have been the weakest swedish one ever, I'm sure he would be chosen (I don´t mean that he is weak, but the weak players in this team made his chances unquestionable). So yea, I'm sure the next time he is available for the team (before the olympics) he is going to play, but unless he is a beast in the NHL it should be hard to consider him for a best-on-best without him proving himself in the WCH.

True. Come to think of it the Swedish teams have usually been vet focused.

Strange that you are suprised. There is many players that is ahead Nylander.

Yeah of the players outside the squad i have Johansson, Zibanejad, Backlund, Burakovsky, Melker Karlsson, Nyquist at least ahead of him right now

No kronner is out Lindholm in
I see, well I bet that's a dream case scenario for many swedish posters out here  (that's why I thought it was just a trolling joke) Lindholm is certainly a great addition  not that Kronwall is bad though.

Kronwall was clearly the worst defenseman on the team although he would've been the only defender there to have actually won something important with sweden so he would've contributed with a lot of experience. Lindholm is clearly an upgrade but personally I would've picked Larsson

Team Europe looks stronger than Finland or the Czech Republic IMO

I still can't get over no Kessel on USA...what the hell are they thinking?

Team Sweden:

Filip Forsberg - Nicklas Bäckström - Rickard Rakell
Daniel Sedin - Henrik Sedin - Loui Eriksson
Gabriel Landeskog - Carl Söderberg - Patric Hörnqvist
Henrik Zetterberg - Marcus Krüger - Jakob Silfverberg
Carl Hagelin

Oliver Ekman-Larsson - Erik Karlsson
Victor Hedman - Anton Strålman
Hampus Lindholm - Niklas Hjalmarsson
Mattias Ekholm

Henrik Lundqvist
Jacob Markström
Robin Lehner

Im holding my breath now...hopefully we don't lose anyone else :( It's not that I wouldn't be confident in this team, taking Benn and Keith out, and having Couture and Bouwmeester in won't be a factor in my opinion, this is such a talented, great team, and this won't be any issue imo. And I'm excited for both J-Bo and Coots. But I feel bad for Benn and Keith. You want them to play, you want to see the best players you have. These tournaments aren't every year.
