What a miserable time to be a Preds fan.
Scary part, that is probably what Trotz is thinking. He just confidently ignores the fact we held on to beat a team that was on its 3rd game in 4 nights and took a shootout to beat a team talent wise that should be worse than we are.Two pretty good games in a row. Think we're starting to turn this thing around..
The sad thing is we have dramatically improved over the last month or so and had our best stretch of the season. However, that only consists of going 8-6-1 which is good for 15th best point percentage in the NHL. So this better play is really what we needed our baseline to be and then get hot from there.Scary part, that is probably what Trotz is thinking. Makes me sad that Fil is probably going to go his whole career without playing with a true 1C. I really do think he is one of the best wingers in the league he's just generally been saddled with mediocre linemates relative to other teams first line talents.I'm just here to appreciate Fil's goal. Absolute banger.
Regardless of what Montreal fans say, Carrier's advance stats weren't good here (or there) and he was always looking dumb as rocks on the ice. A true addition through subtraction. Blankenburg is just as good and half the cost.Makes me sad that Fil is probably going to go his whole career without playing with a true 1C. Also, that was a hell of a pass from Blankenburg. I know his size is a limitation but I do think he's a solid but I think switching him in for Carrier has been addition by subtraction with a sizeable cap advantage too.
Yeah although one thing that frustrates me about the main boards which is consequently why I seldom go there is the need to make every trade have a winner or loser. I'm glad he's doing well there and they are happy with him, but I'm also glad we shed his contract since Blankenburg has played well in the role Carrier had plus we can give Barron a fresh start and hope he pans out. Seems like a win-win for everyone but of course that's no fun and someone has to get dunked on. As much as I've been frustrated with Barry I think the Carrier and Annunen trades both have been good moves in my opinion.Regardless of what Montreal fans say, Carrier's advance stats weren't good here (or there) and he was always looking dumb as rocks on the ice. Wont someone think of the shins?Josi with over 30 mins of ice time...yowzas
Carrier is fine as a bottom pairing guy and as someone who can munch minutes on a bad team (like us, like Montreal). Guy gets exposed against higher quality teams and matchups if he's slotted too far up the lineup. Since the Habs aren't likely to play a meaningful game for another few years still, Carrier's flaws are going to remain more in the background.Yeah although one thing that frustrates me about the main boards which is consequently why I seldom go there is the need to make every trade have a winner or loser. Frankly based on their fans past comments I'm not sure they know what a good Dman looks like. Yeah they had Weber recently but he was a shell of himself despite the playoff run.Regardless of what Montreal fans say, Carrier's advance stats weren't good here (or there) and he was always looking dumb as rocks on the ice. Yeah, I started typing a post in that trade thread, and then bailed. The main gist was that Montreal fans think Carrier is good, and thought Barron was a bust. Except... we know Carrier is mediocre... so does that mean Barron is the worst player ever in the history of hockey? It's just a reflection of the Montreal perspective. They really don't know what a good D looks like anymore, unfortunately. But you can't say that on the main boards without getting 200 hate replies. So why bother.Frankly based on their fans past comments I'm not sure they know what a good Dman looks like. Yeah they had Weber recently but he was a shell of himself despite the playoff run.
They've gone so long without a great one they don't really know.
